Bridgestone Models (Toys)
« on: January 31, 2011, 12:29:45 AM »
I was curious if there were any toy models of any Bridgestones ever made and found this on one of my wild searches. It's a set of 4 smaller bikes issued for the Japanese market only and it includes a BS. It's listed under the brand name NITTO and is titled "Japanese Autobicycle Set"

"19. JAPANESE AUTOBICYCLE SET.  set of 4 motorcycle kit.  smaller 1:20 scale.  1960's issue.  includes Bridgestone Champion molded in green; Tohatsu Ranpet in red; Suzuki Sellpet in black and a Yamaguchi Sincropet molded in blue.  chrome trim with black tires and clear parts.   parts are mint on the trees.  box inserts are intact.  colorful box is near mint to mint.  early and rare kit!  issued for the Japanese market only.  first example that I have ever seen!  150.00"

Here's a link to the site and the kit that has the BS in it.

At $150 bucks, I don't think so!  :o

Considering the relatively short period of time that Bridgestone bikes were promoted here in the USA, I would imagine that the only kits available would have been from the Japanese domestic market, as this one was. And how many of those were produced, is anybody's guess!

Now, if someone finds a 350 GTO kit, I might just shell out a few greenbacks.  ;D

This kit is now on eBay with a starting bid of $44.99 and a buy it now of $64.00. Should go for a lot less than the $150 asking price on the website.  ;D

Here's a different kit that features the BS Champion as well. Haven't found any different Bridgestones, but still on the hunt!

anybody have access to a 3D printer ?
if they can make guns and stuff I'm sure a GTR/GTO would be easy enough

Ooooh.... I like that idea Colin.  And while they're at it maybe they can print up a few GTO oil tanks for the heck of it!  ;D

There is apparently a new process which is like 3D Printing, but it lays down incremental layers of aluminum. I was thinking that with a CAD drawing and one of these machines we could reproduce 350 clutch covers (and other bits). Does anyone have experience with this process? or know of a company doing this?
Actually, there are analogous processes for plastics as well, so a GTO oil tank is probably possible.
I expect the parts cost would be low, but the CAD/CAM software licence and the "printing" equipment would be expensive.

Found this on YouTube. Apparently making parts with 3D printers is more mature than I thought. Very interesting video (and cool).

The Star Trek Replicator has arrived. I knew these were used for prototype builds. But this is more advanced. Great for e-mailing parts, no delivery man or transportation needed. The world may have just changed.

Paul, I think you're right about the world changing. I read a snippet of a book called The Makers on a plane ride the other day. It is about the new industrial revolution and how soon anyone will be able to design and build just about anything in their garage using this or follow-on technology. I plan to read the whole book, but just the little bit I went through was very inspiring.
