New guy few questions
« on: February 10, 2013, 06:54:53 PM »
Hey, I'm in the market for a bike and need some advice.  While in my perpetual search for the next project before I'm even half way through my other projects, I found a 71 tmx 100 on craigslist. the ad is for $350 and I'm looking more towards $200.  I went and looked at it and man is it a neat bike, it shows a lot of age and need a few things.  I put my finger in the spark plug hole and pushed on the kick starter and it had good compression, and he said it ran when parked last year.  At face value I'm thinking it will be about $200 to make it road worthy (as long as the motor internals aren't destroyed).  I plan to just get it on the road until my other project bike is complete then on to a full tear down.  my question is if i get it going could i reasonably ride it to work 36 miles at 55mph (canyon driving twisty).  or would that be stressing the bike to much? I am completely new to two stroke bikes but am crazy excited about the idea of them.  BTW I am 6ft tall 165lbs.  Thanks for any info or opinions even if they just tell me I'm stupid I'm looking for real advise or experience with these bikes.
