GTR generator
« on: July 13, 2012, 09:47:35 AM »
Hi all,

Like to know if the GTR generator case is painted, or zinc plated? If painted, is it the same color as the outer engine cases (silver/aluminum)? Thanks!

Generator aluminum casings are bare aluminum, as cast, except for the turned section toward the points cover plate.

The steel stator plates between the two aluminum sections are steel, coated with a clear coating which turns yellow with age.  You can see from Richards picture that the original stator plates were bare steel colored.

The cover over the points is bright zinc plated.

Jeff, I was wondering about that myself. Can't tell if it's printed on or a decal?

Maybe Richard can get us a straight up shot of that.  ;D

Mike & Jeff

OK  I will take another photo and post it back here soon. ( Photo now posted below)

Its pretty cool that guys are wanting to restore Bridgestone back to original!
When I started supplying parts in the early 1980's people just wanted them to run!  No one cared about them at all!

Note the covers below, there are three different ones.

The early ones had the manufactures name stamped in the around the edge (bottom one)

The one on the right is next oldest, while the one on left is the latest version.

Wow Richard, 3 different covers!  :o

When I get time, I'll go check the ones on my GTO's and post some pics. Maybe we can establish a timeline for each cover.

I'm going to answer your question with a question. Richard is listing the en07 as the earliest version. I imagine it could be found on either bike? Thanks, Mark.

Here's the pic from the GTO. (both GTO's were the same, so I'll only post 1 pic)

Like Coxy's GTR, it also is a en06#. Since there isn't a pic of his, I'm going to assume it's the same as mine and has the numbers stamped in the metal like Richard's pic of the "oldest" version.

So maybe 350's had the en06#, 175's the en02# and like Coxy, the en07 is.......??????  ;D
