Air Pipe Joint Dimensions
« on: February 07, 2017, 10:07:13 AM »
Hey guys, fairly new to this forum site so forgive me if I bring up anything old here. I am coming down to the last bit of my restore on the 175dt, which I am currently taking apart the engine. While I am doing that, I have the last of the parts I need coming in the mail and I cannot for the life of me, find the air pipe joints anywhere. What I really need is the dimensions for those pipe joints so I can fabricate my own, 6241-8010 is the part # of what I'm talking about.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum. Have you tried the site owner Richard for these parts. Should be available. If not maybe you could use a Pillsbury crescent roll container or such. They should be about the same dimension. Maybe pvc from the hardware store, trying to just make your own sounds like a lot of expense with fabrication and plating. Just my thoughts, I don't have a 175 so can't be much help. Good Luck.
Mike

The original ones are 86mm long made from 1.2mm thick oval profile chrome plated steel with an o/d of 52mm x 35mm.

I bought some 1.5mm thick stainless 45mm (1.75") diameter tube and cut it into lengths. I made two round and squeezed two in the vice to make them oval. The oval ones work just fine but the round ones obstruct the cables on the right side.

An intelligent helpful answer?    :'(

Not sure if Anderson was trying to be funny with the PVC or Pillsbury container solution. I haven't looked close enough at any of his bikes to see if he re-chromes by wrapping tin foil around the various parts or uses paper mache. I guess anything is possible.

Sye - you did a really nice job on your handcrafted replacements. When I get the chance, I am going to give your solution a try.

I think some of you guys are being a a%$&# I think its a good idea to use PVC pipe
or something else to roll new metal around to get correct shape.  You two guys are not
being very nice to the new guy or an old member who is trying to help.  You may want
some help some day, if you ever build something.

Jeff - just out of curiosity - who is "being a a%$&# " to the new member that asked for help? The one who posted a previously used solution, or the one who said use a Pillsbury can?

As an aside, anyone know who took Tom Brady's game jersey on Sunday night?
