1966 BS 60 Sport Restoration
« on: August 29, 2018, 08:03:30 AM »
Has anyone experienced a problem connecting the BS 60 Sport muffler to the muffler bracket
located on the rear fender?

I received a NOS muffler from Richard and I am surprised how much of a gap there is between
the muffler and the rear bracket that is attached to the rear fender. The old muffler had a jury
rigged bolt connecting the muffler to the rear fender bracket. The bolt was about 6 inches long
and was tightened down to the bracket.

The bracket, muffler and exhaust pipe are the correct ones.

This model has the muffler on the right side as you sit on the bike.

Thank you for your advice.

Randy

Randy, is the bracket a hanger as shown in the file picture below?

OK, never mind.  I just re-read your post.  I've never seen one with the exhaust on the right side.

There are a couple pictures of 60's with right side mufflers in the gallery. What do you see different between them and yours? Can you post a pic of yours and the problem you are experiencing?

Rowland,

You were right regarding the header pipe. I should have known.

But I was going by the fact the previous owner knew what they were doing.
They told me they had put on a new header pipe they had purchased  from
Certified Parts. ( I assumed it was the correct one)

I will post a few photos of the bike.

I had a similar problem when I restored my Right hand muffler 1965 BS50 Sport. The old header pipe was beyond repair and I tried to fit a 90 header pipe. No go. I bought a 50 Sport header pipe from Richard. Problem solved.

I have run into this before when I have purchased Bridgestone's from people
who tells me they knew what they were doing. When in reality they didn't have
a clue.

I would prefer people be upfront and honest.
