Pinion Gear
« on: February 15, 2017, 01:09:57 PM »
Ok, so this pinion gear is holding me back from completely taking the engine apart. I don't know if I am missing something, if it is just suck or if theres a special way of taking it off. I'd rather double check to make sure I'm not missing anything before I go prying at it, possibly breaking something that I didn't know about. I would like to be able to take off the rotary valve that's behind it so I can separate the crankcase.

So, any special way of taking it off or should I just start try to pry it out? I have taken the LEFT HANDED THREAD NUT off. In step 18, page 17 of the manual, it simply states to remove the retaining nut and gear from the shaft, nothing more than that so I'm assuming its just as easy as sliding it off. Again, this is a precaution on my part to just be sure I am doing it correctly. I have posted some pictures so you guys can see what I am working with.

No special way.
I used a three jaw gear puller but anything should do as long as you don't damage the rorary disk.

make sure you take that thin washer off - it can hinder removing the gear.
