BS 90 Mountain Oil Injected
« on: May 01, 2017, 10:55:53 AM »
Newbie here. I just recently bought a BS 90 Mountain Oil Injected  S/N 17B004439 with upswept left side exhaust. According to the parts catalogue, these bikes could have had either left or right side upswept exhaust. What determined which side the exhaust  was on? Also, can someone tell me what year model my bike is?  My first motorcycle was a BS 50 and that was about 50 years ago. I've owned many different Bridgestones since then. Thanks, Jim P.

Jim, I believe you have a 1966 built in Feb I found on line Scotts Bridgestone Motorcycles  look under links, They have a break down of models and years. I have an H also a BS90 mountain blue with left side exhaust. I think the right side exhaust was NOT oil injection. Hop

Jim
I have 3 x Mountains. The 1965/66 with the 'flat' sided tank has the exhaust/muffler on the right. It is pre-mix. The muffler is similar to the BS 60 Sport with a 'tapered' end. The other two are 1967 models with the 'bullet' shaped tank and the muffler on the left. The muffler has a 'blunt' end on both. One 1967 model is oil injected and the other 1967 model is pre-mix.
I hope this helps. A large number of BS Mountains were sold in Australia in the 1960s, mostly to farmers.. This helps explain why they are the predominant model still occasionally 'uncovered'.

Another identifier is that if your Mountain came with a large chrome luggage rack, the 1965/66 rack had the front and rear of the rack turned up. The 1967  model only had the rear of the rack turned up. This rack was bolted to the smaller blue pressed metal rack.

Hop and RaK,
Thanks for your responses.  I'm sure I'll have many more questions before this project gets up and going.  Jim P.
