350 Clutch Fiber Discs
« on: March 28, 2012, 07:04:00 PM »
I recently took the clutch basket out of my GTR and lifted the discs out of the basket only to have one of the fiber discs fall apart in 3 pieces. Seems that after sitting all the years they have brittled up and are no good. I have on order a 7 piece fiber disc set that is aftermarket parts, has the 10 cog outters and is 5 11/16 from cog to cog opposite ( approximate because discs are metric ) which is the size for the 350 BS. After i receive the discs and can verify they will work, more would be available for sale for others to purchase ( once it would be known that they are useable replacements, i will have the seller information posted on this site.) Hope in about 2 weeks i can leave a good message that they are useable. :)

That's great news bsforever, it's nice to see all the efforts of the various parties working to insure the availability of so many of the hard to find parts that are needed to keep our Bridgestones running.

I really hopes this one works out.

I don't know that it's just age as we used to shatter those discs frequently back in 70 and 71.  The materials in use at that time were not as good possibly as we have available today.  Also being in our teens at the time, it may be that we weren't any too easy on them.  The breakage issue though isn't a new phenomenon.

Disappoinment with the discs. Seller measured a disc and told me it was the correct measurement i was looking for. The disc is 5 3/8 and not the 5 11/16 i was told they were. Also, they are the 'wet' clutch type.  :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I ran across this company while looking for clutch info after I found one of my GTR fiber plates in pieces. It mentions the sheet material is available in 3mm thickness which is what the GTR plates measure and can be cut with a carbide cutter. Thought I would pass this on to see if it would be worth checking out....... http://www.indiamart.com/coeff-frictionbands/friction-sheets.html Jim

BS Friends:

Sorry to be tuned out as of late, been out of town on business and was pretty sick!  >:(  I thought I may not make it, but i did.  ;D

Anyway, concerning 350 clutch plates and 350 right hand carb covers. Ray and I will be checking into having them reproduced
as soon as the 350 rod project is completed.

That is if no one else comes up with another solution.

Keep the ideas coming, all possibility's need to be explored before an expensive reproduction project is undertaken.
