Title: What Bridgestone Items Have You Had or.....
Post by: moonpup on April 25, 2014, 05:46:49 PM
are currently having the most difficulty finding?

Here's your chance to get your frustrations out and who knows.... maybe someone will see your list and give you a shout!  8)

I'll get this started with a couple items that have eluded my search.

1) NOS GTO oil tank. Found a decent one on eBay and managed to whiten it up considerably, but still keeping an eye out for a new one.

2) 350 GTO Owner's Manual. Been told they exist... haven't seen any.

Edit: Oops, forgot this

3) NOS or "like new" Tool pouch/bag.  It's been a little difficult finding a correct one that isn't brittle, torn or split and has good snaps.

At the moment on my GTR wish list are........

A NOS or good R/H clutch cover.

A NOS or very good pair of exhaust manifolds.

A good pair of muffler diffusers.

A NOS or very good side stand.

I may add other items as time passes.

In no particular order:

the original set of drawings for a 350 GTR (and other models too) so more parts could be reproduced to factory specs

any tooling that still exists for these parts

to win the Power Ball

OK, now I feel much better!  ;D

on the "get real" front (kinda):

a matching pair of 350 cylinders with original plating in good condition (or a replatable set with minimal damage)

a NOS left 350 GTR exhaust pipe

a complete set of 350 special tools

Really great idea for a thread Moonpup!

I'll go ahead and toss another item into the fray that's been difficult for me to get my hands on and it's not because they haven't shown up on eBay or elsewhere , it's the astronomical prices some people are willing to pay for these things!  :o

It's the chrome Bridgestone license backing plate.

Here's an item that seems to me to be one that would be fairly easy to reproduce and unlike other parts that are specific (and limited) to a particular model such as connecting rods, clutch plates, etc., these encompass virtually the entire Bridgestone model line. Seems like a no-brainer to me....  ???

The GTR primary drive cover, or as the parts catalogue calls it "Right Crank Case Cover 2161-9000". (Condition unimportant as it won't be used for a restoration but for a racing project.)

He's listed that ad on and off for about a year now. When it was first posted, I too contacted him and I guess because I told him I have a brother in Houston that could pick it up for me, he responded. I low-balled him with an offer of $150 to see how firm he was on his price and that got me nowhere.  :o  Anyway, we left it with me leaving my number and telling him if it didn't sell to give me a shout and maybe we could come up with a number that we were both happy with.

It hasn't sold in almost a year and I've never heard back from him. Good luck, you may be right about him not wanting to mess with shipping.

Edit: His initial price was $500, so over the year he's come down $200.  Let's wait another year and see what happens!  ;D

It's the chrome Bridgestone license backing plate.

Here's an item that seems to me to be one that would be fairly easy to reproduce

I agree, it would be nice to have. However, it costs a few thousand to make a stamping die, then you have to have parts chromed, polished and painted.  The cost to manufacture a couple hundred is probably $50/each.  After you've sold plates to the first dozen or so people willing to pay $100/ each, than you can't sell any of the rest for more than about $35/ each, since, as soon as people realize there is an ongoing supply, they will stop paying big bucks.  Sounds like a great business plan...  :)

The clutch cables shouldn't be too hard, except the grease fitting. I haven't figured out how that piece was even manufactured originally.  For a cable for a rider, Motion Pro could probably make a good functioning cable.
Title: Re: What Bridgestone Items Have You Had or.....
Post by: farmerdl on May 02, 2014, 03:41:42 PM
I did have Motion Pro make a clutch cable for my GTR.  Perfectly good servicable cable.  No grease fitting and the center adjust section is a little different, but the average person would never notice the difference.  Had to send them an old cable for a pattern as they do not keep specs for the Bridgestones.  All told about three and a half weeks from sending them my old one til I received the new one.  Also got one from Richard about the same time.  Again, no grease fitting as Richard explained when I ordered it.  Perfectly good useable cable, again the average person wouldn't notice the difference from the original.  We are capable of lubing cables w/o the fitting.  Nice to have it but you don't need the fitting for functionality.  Myself, I will get any I need  from Richard as long has he will supply them.  We owe this man a lot and loyalty is included in that.

Sorry my first posting is a plea for help but here we go.
Having just acquired the red GTR listed on uk ebay recently i'm now working my way through it and could do with some help with the following:-
Good Chainguard, somewhere to acquire a seatcover, grap handle, NOS or good rims, best place in Southern England for good quality chrome plating, front engine bolt.
And like you Ziggy more to follow probably.

Hey alan86a! It is a part of the BSer psyche to wish for parts (from heaven or any type of intervention). You'll find help here and someone may have your  parts. Richard the sponsor of the site may have some of your needs. I will offer that the seatcover can be found on eBay (pitreplica manufactures reproductions)...good luck, and keep us posted on your progress...

Hi Alan,

Welcome to the forum.

A chain guard for a GTR is rare and if one should come up then it will be pricey, Pitreplica for the seat cover, Richard Clarke for the grab handle and most other parts you need. Read as much as you can on here and you will soon learn what is available and what isn't.

Next to nothing on eBay U.K. for a GTR, check eBay U.S. regularly.

I like to use Chromefix.co.uk in Birmingham for my re chroming work, is your's the one from Freddythefatfrog or from DK's?

Hi Ziggy/Bert
Thanks for the tips.
My one was the one from fatfreddy (amazing place over 100 classics stacked 3 high, but don't turn up there to have a nose round because he'll probably show you the door), and quite honestly the more i've got into the bike the more pleased i am.
It appears that someone has already started the rest on the bike i.e. painted cases, refurbed bars, new levers, polished bits here and there, but its so strange that for instance the cases look great from the outside but now having removed them the original thousands of miles of crud are still there.
The chainguard is missing so is a necessity as is the side grab handle and engine bolt.
My intentions are to strip the bike down to inspect the internals and go from there.
I've sent Richard a list of about 80 parts and await the outcome to gauge the way forward.
I'm definitely getting the BSer physche, but with this sites support it gives me a nice warm feeling.
Thanks again Alan

I'd not noticed the chain guard on eBay Bert so was wondering how I missed it?

If you look at shipping prices the seller states that he won't ship to the U.K. How inconsiderate of him but he's not on his own as I've experienced it many times and I've missed some good items in the past from the U.S. for my restorations.

Sometimes if you contact them they may change the listing as If I remember correctly it stops any U.K. resident from bidding.

Title: Re: What Bridgestone Items Have You Had or.....
Post by: ziggy stardust on May 22, 2014, 04:55:59 AM
Yes I've thought of asking forum members for help when a seller doesn't ship out of the country but if I took the extreme as an example and there was say a NOS clutch cover plate listed for my GTR at $350 how many members would come forward and say I'll pay for it then you can pay me later including the shipping costs? Now over $400 the good Samaritan takes on the responsibility that the item arrives safely in the U.K., I know it all sounds negative but that's how it is.

I'd like to think members would help an established known member like myself for low cost items but a couple of years ago when I first started on here and was unknown I think it would have been a challenge.

Certain forum members have helped me with parts and I'm really grateful for that. Another thought is that you accept that you've missed an item but another one will turn up.

There can be any number of reasons why a seller chooses not to offer worldwide shipping and since I’m the seller in this case, please let me explain my situation and why I chose the shipping options I did.

As I’ve mentioned previously in other threads, I am the sole caregiver for a parent with medical conditions that require my constant attention. Leaving the house for anything longer than 15-20 min’s usually means hiring a “sitter” that costs $12 @ hr. and has a 3hr. minimum. (please keep this tid-bit of personal info in mind as I explain further)

eBay offers 2 shipping options that people usually chose, flat rate to all customers or calculated cost based on location. If you want to ship worldwide and still have “fair & reasonable” shipping costs for all, then calculated cost is the way to go but you’ll need to pre-measure your package and determine its weight and enter that information in the appropriate boxes. Since there are absolutely NO scales of any kind in this house and until I order one online, I would have to take the pre-packaged item either to the post office or somewhere else to get it weighed.

So off I go to the post office... but wait, there’s 10 people ahead of me in line. Do I wait? How’s Mom doing? Is she hollering for help and calling 911 because no one is answering her? Should I have paid $36 for the sitter?

Kind of a hassle isn’t it..... hence the flat rate to U.S. only. (and yes, I still have to deal with this scenario once it sells, but the less trips, the better.)

Now, to ward off any future inquiries as to why I didn’t just send “alan86a” a p.m. fret not, I did.  His mail box was full so I checked his profile and got his regular email address and sent off a note letting him know I had one to offer. To this day, I’ve gotten no reply.  So I figure he’s either already found what he needed or just hasn’t gotten around to checking his email yet. It could also be a whole host of other reasons I haven’t thought of. (kinda like why someone might not offer worldwide shipping) Either way, I have other chain guards available should he still need one.

Let’s just get back to finding those needed parts and helping each other out when possible.

Hi Mike

I've just read your reply on Richards site.
Firstly i only have 1 message in my PM list and this is a couple months old so can't see how it says its full.
I've also checked my email address(alantolliday@yahoo.co.uk) plus spam list and cannot find any reference so maybe the system has failed.
Having said that i only posted the chainguard request on 20th this month.
Right then enough explanation, the chain guard is still definately wanted and so obviously i'm still very much in the market for all the bits i asked for.
I do have a comprehensive wish list of parts, maybe if you have any other bits hanging around i could send you it also, to see if there is a matchup anywhere.
But have i got it right that it is difficult neigh impossible with your carers situation to ship to UK.
I can empathise with your personal situation as i am similarly the same with my wife.
I very much appreciate you taking the time and effort to TRY to contact me and hope to here from you soon.
I've sent a similar PM to you but am not sure if it will arrive.
Kind regards Alan Tolliday.

Mufflers as mine have some pretty good dents that I have yet to try to remove.
A tool kit would be nice to have for it.
And Steve it is sad that we can't get Bridgestone tires for our Bridgestones.
And my right side clutch cover is at a local welding shop.  He is really good with a tig so wait and see how that turns out.
The inner or driven part of the clutch to go with my new clutch plate set.
                  Thanks    Rod

Tried to get the sign but couldn't come up with a reasonable shipping option by the time auction ended. I had contacted the shipper he suggested but took them a week to get back with a quote, which was crazy high anyway. Still looking for that sign.....

Thanks for the tip about this tread Moonpup.... snip...

You're welcome.  ;D

Now that I see your list, I'm unfortunately unable to help you out with any of it. I'd give Gene ( Mopar5426 ) a shout as I'm pretty sure there's a few items he's got. He posted his phone # on the first page of this thread. Good luck!

Inside the cap for the GTO oil tank, there's a plastic washer/baffle to keep the oil from sloshing out. None of the nos caps for sale from the various vendors have these in them.

I need 3 of these. (or good caps with these still in them)  If anyone has any they care to sell, please give me a shout.   Thanks.......

Got this in the mail today. One more item off the list and I have a tail light lens mounting plate in transit. Got a clutch cover without any cracks a few weeks back but has some scratches that need removed and then a good polishing. Patience is definitely needed for this hobby!        Rod

Right on Rod! Patience is definitely required, but grinding it out, in my experience, is always worth it. Football, school, motorcycles same story.
 ;D ;D ;D
BTW, kicker is awesome!

Hey grundlegrabber..... here's another sign that was put up on eBay yesterday. I spoke with the seller just now and he informed me that he & his son would like to get $1000 for it.

And to think we thought the other one was high..... yikes!

Thanks for the heads up. I noticed it yesterday and will be bidding on it. $1000 seems very high but then again I haven't seen another one since that last one came up. I've been wishing for one of these for a long time. Only reason I didn't buy the last one is the seller didn't want to have anything to do with shipping it.

Hey Grunt101,
Are you looking for both the right side engine(transmission/clutch) cover and carb cover?  There are some listed on eBay.  Here's a link:
http://m.ebay.com/itm/BRIDGESTONE-100-OEM-RIGHT-ENGINE-SIDE-CLUTCH-COVER-CASE-HOUSING-GUARD-PROTECTOR-/381652478628?hash=item58dc42aaa4%3Ag%3A08kAAOSw9k5XPiw5&_trkparms=pageci%253Af4005f84-5828-11e6-979b-005056b25309%257Cparentrq%253A47db26081560a785742a90e6fff9d227%257Ciid%253A12
There are usually some carb covers listed too but I didn't see any.  Good luck, Steve

This e-mail is to let any owners of  50cc Step- Thru Homer model with plastic leg shields, to say that last year I sent an original Homer seat cover to an eBay seller so he could have his Asian ( Thailand, I think) business associate make a reasonable-quality, accurate copy. It took several months, but he sent me 2 of the new seat cover copies, which even have accurate-looking white "BRIDGESTONE" stenciled lettering on rear panel, like the original. The quality seems to be as good as the original Japanese cover was. Later when I was finally to find an original 50cc Surfrider seat cover in fair condition ( this is the 50cc -forced-air cooling shrouded head model cycle that has the gas tank located in front of the rider), I sent this original cover to the same ebay seller who is having copies made that will be sold in his eBay store before long.   I will use one of these on my 1964 Surfrider Resto project bike.
The seller's name is Andy Ng and his eBay store is vintagehondamotorcyclepart.
As far as I know, no one else makes/sell any decent BS cycle seat covers for these 2 models of Bridgestones. My new seat covers  were provided for free since I provided the originals for a pattern, but I think Andy's price will be reasonable.

While checking out a recent eBay listing on a nice 350 GTR in the UK, my eyes were drawn to the owners manual that the seller was including in the sale.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-Honda-no-a-1970-Bridgestone-350GTR-Motorbike-/332175521626?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

Turns out, it happens to be one of the GTR/GTO manuals printed in July 1970 that I've been searching for with no luck and it reinvigorated my desire to find one.

I contacted the seller and found out this one was missing the front cover, so my search continues. In anyone has one in good condition I would certainly be interested and great wealth would come your way!  ;D

It has a loop design on the front cover like the one pictured below of a MII 200 manual. Also pictured is the back cover from the eBay listing.

That last sign on eBay had a starting bid of $300 w/ $118 for shipping. Got no bids and didn't sell.  It was dirt cheap and in much better condition that this sign which was recently listed!!!!!
