Introducing my Bridgestone Dual Twin 175

Recently picked up another Bridgestone, it's a '66 Dual Twin which came out of Fort Dodge, IA.
Here's a few pictures of it at the time I unloaded it. No clean up has been done, but it is apparent that it will need a little help just to be a nice survivor.




The mileage is quite low at 2960 and is accurate, as the original tires thread wear and w/o any cracks indicate.




Chrome, overall is in quite good condition, with a bit of acid damage to the right part of the rear fender as well as that muffler. Also on the plus side it is dent free, even got the tool kit with it.

Here I've already got it on the lift to begin an inventory of everything I'll be searching for this winter. Also took out the battery so it can be kept in shape till spring as well.


I have a couple of questions concerning parts. I'm in need of the intake rubber pieces for both sides as well as the tubes. Also does anyone know why some tool boxes are chrome and some are candy red. Any insight on that would be appreciated.

Nice looking bike. Seems not many have survived in that nice of shape. Toolbox on my '68 dual twin is red.

So you would be saying that the later DT175's had painted tool boxes and the early production bikes had chrome boxes?

  I know photos don't always convey the true picture but considering she is 45+ years old she looks terrific, a great start for a restoration.  Great find.

A nice example - I wish there were 40 year old survivors like that here in the UK. You should be able to turn that into a nice "rider".

On teh subject of toolboxes, the first Dual twins had red-painted toolboxes with hinged lids. When the 175 Hurricane Scrambler came along, the high-level mufflers got in the way of the tololbox lid, so the box was then changed to chrome with a twist-off lid. Yours is a later model with the oil tankl on the side
(not laying underneath the fuel tank) so gteh chrome box looks correct.

Graham, thanks for the tool box info. Mine apparently came with the chrome canister, but the lid was lost (the lid on the bike is hammered out of aluminum by the PO). I've acquired an NOS tool canister with lid, but it is red. Will this still fit onto the frame, or were the dimension's changed also? The frame number is 16Lxxxxx, so is a Dec '66 bike from the codes I've seen.

Very nice looking bike - I am more that slightly envious.

I have 16E00xxxx which is May 1966 manufacture date. Mine has the painted tool box and the oil tank under the fuel tank.

Anyone have any insight on the handlebars for the 175 DT's? Mine has the bars with the brace across and the "fat" grips, which appears to be for the HS. Was there a DT that had this style from the factory?

Hahaha, My Son In Law is a petroliana collector, and so I get to store some of his excess artifacts. Such as the Frontier sign in the last photo, hanging in my shop.
Here's another pump you may like as well, sitting in my basement/man cave amongst other bikes.

Yes, I think the red toolbox should fit any Dual Twin. It was just the high level pipes on the Hurricane Scrambler that caused the problem.

Now your just rubbing it in and being mean with that last photo.

I wanted to leave the 50 Sport I restored in the basement display style with those movie theater style thick red ropes around it. My wife wouldn't even engage me in a conversation about it. Women are so controlling sometimes.

Seriously, that picture is awesome and I really like the display.
