350 GTO oil & fuel lines
« on: July 27, 2013, 06:06:19 PM »
Trying to get my 350 GTO up and running. Since the bike has not run for 25 years, the oil and fuel lines are all cracked to hell. What are you guys using for the oil lines on the GTO? The short, large diameter piece that connects the filter to the plastic tank and the supply line down to the pump? Trying to keep the bike as correct as possible, but would like to use something transparent for the line down to the pump so I know the oil is flowing. What material is best for this? Tygon? And for the fuel lines, I have some OEM Honda rubber tubing that is the correct ID, however the OD is a little larger than the original line. Was trying last night to get it to fit through the rubber carb cap, but seems to be too tight. Please share your thoughts and experiences on this subject.

grundlegrabber,
The fuel line that works for the GTR or the GTO that i use is 3/16 ID made by Motion pro and its in black.
You can get it from most motorcycle shops or on the net.
Thanks.
Steve.

Here's the cheapest place on the web.  It's where I purchased mine.  Great place to deal with.

i am noting folks are recommending Motion Pro Tygon fuel line.  i do not have any experience with the product, but the white lettering tends to turn me away, would like to have plain black; my GTR has a yellow line.  The tank has been coated with POR-15, looks like a well done job, so i am not concerned about debris in tank.  Does anyone have experience with this product - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tusk-Rubber-Fuel-Line-1-4-x-3-Black-Motorcycle-ATV-Dirt-Bike-UTV-SXS-Enduro/172476066271?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

or are there any plain black lines you all recommend?

Problem is, the fuel and oil lines have to go through the rubber carb caps or the triangular crankcase seal rubber. These have 7mm holes, so any tube bigger than 7/8mm OD won't go through. That limits your choice considerably, 5/16'' OD tube works fine.

Correction - engage brain - meant to say 3/16 ID tube works fine.

           Steve,
I use the same tube for fuel and oil, clear on oil pump outlets and black for the others.  Tube I use here in UK is not so good on petrol lines, it tends to harden up quite quickly but does the job.

You might also try a local motorcycle shop. The local Indy Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki & Kawasaki shop has rolls of various sizes of the black thin-walled tubing.

Another good source for fuel line:

https://4into1.com/search.php?search_query=fuel+line&Search=

I recently purchased 5.5 mm for a '70 Honda CB750. They offer line from several manufacturer's, but they also sell genuine Honda (the brand I bought) fuel line. It's very flexible, and is , in most cases, sold by the foot. Several sizes, as well. Seems to even more flexible than "Motion Pro" brand.

Harry, thank you for the tip!  How do you like the material  the MotionPro line is made of?  is it flexible, have a little stretch to it, or is it somewhat stiff? Shiny or looks like rubber  i still have about 10 foot of rubber line i've had since early back in the day, but it will not hold up to today's wonderful gasoline.  so, would like to find a modern substitute.  sounds like there's a number of options, oem Honda is probably most like original...
