I've already told my Norton story with the shifter on the other side (shifted when trying to brake...hello weeds...;-), but the shift pattern thing is something you just have to keep top of mind. These ain't Hondas or Kaws...lol!

Got the tanks and side cover back from the painter and am very pleased with the results. He tried matching some original paint on the rear mount of the gas tank. I don't know how close it is to the original but no matter I love the color. A friend made the decals that are on the gas tank. I thought since it is no longer  chrome it needed something on it. There is a car show in Newcastle on Monday and I plan on parking it in front of the building it was originally sold out of. It will be interesting to see peoples reaction.......Rod

Here's another option for you on the tank decals. I've attached a pic of a tank that Mike Anderson did using the 1971 350 tank decals. I think they look good on the painted tanks...

I second the "looks good"! Nice job! I have been thinking of using the logo decal you have on your tank in the same way. I may modify the color scheme somewhat to go with what I'm considering, but the black looks nice on the red.

I solved the problem on my 350 by making a lever mechanism. I was racing at the time and also riding the 350 to work frequently and didn't want to get shifting confused on either.  There is a photo in the Gallery: http://bridgestonemotorcycleparts.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=264

Karl that was a pretty slick fix! I put over a 100 miles on the GTR in the last 2 days. Had to pull the carbs off a couple of times as it was running rich. Put in 130 mains and 25 pilot jets and it was still doing the 2 stroke stutter way more than it should at 60. Adjusted the floats to get the fuel level lower and it is running pretty good now. Main problem I'm having is it is difficult to shift down. It helps if I blip the throttle when shifting. I think I like the GTR better than my Kawasaki A7 as it vibrates less. I have a 40 tooth rear sprocket and it turns about 5000 at 60mph. What is the rpm at 60 with a stock 36 tooth?............Rod

60 MPH is about 5100 RPM in 5th or 4600 RPM in 6th according to the chart in the service manual.

Finally got around to doing something about the missing foot lever on the center stand. These compact benders are not suppose to work with pipe but I was able to do it a 3/8"  pipe nipple by first by capping one end and packing it full of sand and then capping the other end. By looking at pictures it needs a smaller radius on the outside bend and more distance between the 2 bends. I remember seeing pictures on this forum showing the right dimensions but have not been able to find them. If anyone is interested I could bend more of these up and send them to you.........Rod
