I just rode a bike today where the shifter does double duty as the kicker as well. Also once under way you don't have to use the clutch. It has a mechanism that releases the clutch as you shift.

Bike sat since the early 80's but its running once again. The engine on this one isn't very ugly though.

Kevin

Would that be a Jawa Californian - I think it is a split single.  They sold a few in OZ in the early 70s

My brother has a Jawa 350 that he's thinking about selling if anyone is interested in one of their own.   :D

I don't like the bikes that have the motor covered in plastic and you can't see the engine at all.

Then you must hate my daily driver, a 1998 Pacific Coast 800. I've ridden a lot of bikes but settled on this one, super quiet, smooth as silk, and the trunk opens up like a car!

We had CZ and Jawa motorcycles over here with that kickstart system back in the 70s and early 80s.

It had a good party trick for the unwary. Don't let your foot slip off the kickstart pedal at the bottom of its stroke. If you do, the pedal returns smartly, flicks outward to the the gearchange position, and the mometum of the the lever carries it on downwards to engage first gear. That either stalls the engine again for you, or if you had too much throttle and revs on, the bike promptly moves off with a surprised rider hanging on.

Heigh-ho!!
