New BS100 owner in STL
« on: October 29, 2011, 02:21:43 AM »
Hey everyone, stumbled upon this site while I was researching a bike I bought yesterday. I will add pictures as soon as I can. The bike is a 1971 100cc, basically complete and has been garaged for years. The inside of the tank is a bit rough and there is some spot rust here and there, but overall I am pleased with it. I got anxious and sprayed a little ether in it last night. It fired right up and died once the ether burned off - which is amazing, because this bike has not been registered for road use since 1982! I plan on freshening the bike up over the winter and getting it back on the road by next spring, and this seems to be the best site for the info I'll need.

Mike, glad you found this site. There are alot of members here with very helpful information as well as parts available if needed for your resto. Is the bike the TMX 100 ? Try to post some pics if you can....always nice to see what has been sitting for many years only to be discovered by someone and has the intrest to restore it. Another BS on the road is always a great thing to hear!!!! Good luck in the resto.  :)

Thanks! Dumb question, but does TMX stand for anything?

Officially TMX didn't stand for anything, but I suspect it was intended to make you think of "Trials and Moto-X".

Bridgestone did this on other models, too. The 100 roadster version was known as the 100 G/P - presumably hinting at "Grand Prix", but it's difficult to think of any bike less relevant to Grand Prix racing than a Bridgestone 100. The 350 Bridgestones were titled as the "GTR" and "GTO". I've always taken that to refer to "GT(Gran Turismo) Road" and GT Off-road", which is perhaps a bit more of a relevant name - but again I've never seen that in print.

... but what's in a name, anyway? I call mine "Ratty" and "Rusty".
