1970 GP 100, My first Bridgestone
« on: September 29, 2013, 09:42:35 AM »
Hello everyone!!!!  My name is Greg and I bought a 1970 GP 100 from my neighbors son about 2 months ago.  The bike has been in my neighbors barn for at least 30 years and I have been living across the street and looking through the windows at this bike for at least 15 years.  The bike is going to be a lot of work I think.  I recently started tearing it apart and took everything off the frame.  The bike has been wrecked/laid over, so the handle bars are bent and need replaced, the cover for the carb/oil injector is toast and needs replaced.  When the bike was laid over it busted the tube that the carb clamps onto.  I have researched that part on this site and I think that is part of the rotary valve cover.  One of my front shocks needs rebuilt and I need an exhaust (unless my neighbors son can find it in the barn).  The gas tank, oil tank and all other painted parts have not been dented, but the paint on them is shot and peeling, so it's going to need a new paint job.  My goal is to get this bike running like it was new, but I am not planning on re-chroming everything, I just want it rideable and looking nice, not show quality (I don't have the money for that).  I paid $100 for it and would like to complete this reno for under $900 to keep my total at $1,000 at the most.  Is this doable?  I will post pictures.  Any input is appreciated.  I was so excited to find this site.  After finding all of the manuals, etc. I am confident I can get this done.  Your thought are appreciated.

Greg

Hello Greg, and welcome to the best Bridgestone site on the internet! Yes, the tube that the carb clamps on to is part of the rotary valve cover ( easy fix .....just replace valve cover). For any parts you will need, Richard ( the owner of this site ) would be the person to inquire for parts ( except tires ),Pit Replica ( on e-bay) for seat covers. Just basing on the descript, i would guess the most expense would be painting, but painters vary on what they charge...... be good idea to 'shop' around' for that.  It is always a thrill to see a new member join here and having that enthusiasm to bring back another one of our beloved Bridgestones back to life. Good luck Greg
