Are these Modified carbs? Balance tubes?
« on: April 27, 2016, 09:46:46 PM »
It looks like these carbs have extra tubes in them.  The bike ran when I got it... not perfectly, but it ran.  I have video if it firing up nicely and revving OK. Just blew smoke and such...

But upon restoration of the entire bike, i started looking at the carbs and wondered what these tube are all about.  They do not look stock.... could they be balance tubes for a carb balancer?  And if so, should I plug them up somehow?

That's the location of the normal bowl vent hole so you can't plug them up. You could remove them or shorten them, though.  You are probably right, someone was playing around with a balance tube or some other strange thing.

I agree with Karl, they do look as though someone was trying to set up carb balance tappings. Can you say where the tubes connect to internally ? If the carbs have the same arrangement as the 350, there is a second bowl vent on the opposite side of the throttle slide, so possibly the extra tubes can be removed and/or plugged if necessary.

Unspoiled by progress.
I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!
