I have a GTR to add to the lists.  It is titled as a '68 and the tag puts it at a September of '67 build, so I guess that fits.

Tag #:  21 U 03118

Frame #:  NA1-03141

Engine #:  NA1-03225

Hi, Thumper,

Thanks for adding your bikes serial numbers - but I think there could be  problem. The engine number looks good - it fits into the BS100 Sport numbering sequence quite nicely (all BS100 engines used the 100 Sport's "20" prefix). The metal tag serail number of "23E015641", though, is way ot of sequence. The "015641" bit is the sme as the engine number. Since Bridgestones never had matching numbers on frames, engines and Serial tags I suspect that you have mistyped the tag number. I think there were only around 12,500 pipe framed BS100s made, and a May 1970 bikewould be expected to have an engine number in the region of "22E009500" - could you double check?

I have what I believe is a 90, but I am unable to find a matching vin in the table.  on the frame, it is stamped 3T021285. there is also a number on the steering column 3035783. any ideas?

Graham;
  I have one here that seems a little out of sequence on the VIN record chart. It's a 90M Surf Rider with the following numbers; VIN: 12O039026 / Motor:12O039203 / Frame: KK040117. I'm puzzled because the VIN actually falls numerically after one listed as being produced in the following month, (12P038261). Any guesses? It's a blue 90M with a Surf Rider badge on the tank, and also noted on the VIN plate. Be glad to send a pic of the VIN plate for verification if you need it prior to adding to the list. Thanks.

Hey, Kerry,

You seem to have been reading the list properly! That;';s certainly a bit weird (the list that is, not the fact that you are reading it!?).

As your numbers are taken straight from a bike plate, I'm inclined to believe them. What I reckon has happened is that the number in my listing is a mistake for "12P039261". Either a dose of "finger trouble" when I typed it up originally, or the owner misread the number when he passed it to me.

By now I've lost track of where all the serials came from so I've got no way of confirming that, but that solution would put your serial right in the sequence, so I'll go with that and correct the listing to match.

Well spotted, sir  - have yourself a beer!

Graham;
Thanks so much. Just a note; you'll have to check that errant finger. I see the VIN is entered as "12O039023"; should be "026". No worries, and again my thanks for all your hard work. Moonpup listed a Craigslist find yesterday that is only 30 miles from my home. A '70 Mach II RS, in apparently nice shape. Going over today to inspect. I'll grab numbers while I'm there if I don't buy it on site.

Cheers,
Kerry

Graham;
  Today I purchased a bike that Moonpup found on CraigsList and gratiously posted for the community in classifieds. Just so happened it was only 30 miles from my house. It's a BS 200 Mach II RS, and is in terrific shape. I'll post pictures later. Let's add the VIN number to the list please. It reads as follows: 23I 00180, making it an early 200. This proofs, because the frame and engine numbers are both TA1. (frame; TA1 31002, / eng; TA1 00224). The previous owners found it in a barn, well preserved several years ago. They titled it, guessing the year as 1970, so I have some title reconciling to do with the State. Fortunately, your work with this VIN list will provide me the proof that it is actually a 1969, (built Sept. of '68). This bike has the original seat, tank, etc., all in relatively good shape. An exciting survivor find. Motor is solid, needing only carb work, as known right now.

Cheers,
Kerry

Will do, Kerry,

Good luck with your 200.

As for the finger, I washed my hands yesterday morning, and couldn't do a thing with them all day. (or was that my hair???)

Graham

PS.

I've just checked you 200's serial and it sits in the middle of the two serials I already have for Sept '68, so doesn't add anything extra to the listing - but it does help to confirm that the other two numbers are correct!

Hows does this apply to a rockford taka, if at all ?

Only id is on tag riveted to frame near rear shock

Model 34501
Id 14274

Most obvious guess is that its a 1974 (perhaps feb 14, valentines day bike ?)
Any thoughts ?

Brad;...Might be speaking out of turn here, but after BS sold off the rights to Tailung in Taiwan in 71-ish, I'm guessing that was the end of the BS VIN number trail. I doubt that BS Tailung continued the same format. Basically, they built bikes with many of the parts purchased in the deal, until Rockford folded it up in 1975. Sounds as though you may have one of the last imported units. I'm sure Richard can be of service in giving you the history, and a clearer picture, as he was involved in the operation when it was still vibrant. Good luck with the Taka. BTW... spent a few years growing up in a suburb of Detroit, called Farmington. One of the guys who played for the Lions lived a couple of houses down. That was like '63-'65. Welcome to the BS community. Great folks here.

Graham;
  One of the new members inquired about their recent  200 SS purchase, and I see the serial number would fill in a spot on the ID list. #23N06123, benchmarking a Feb. '71 entry.
