The production totals suggest that the 50 Sport probably remained in production until some time in 1968.

   Oct   16 V   32608; 32688
   Nov   16 W
   Dec   16 Z

I have seen a few frames with serial numbers up above 37000, which exceeds the number of BS175s built. These are early model BS200 frames, presumably usiing up the surplus stock of frames originally  intended for use on BS175's.

I'm not 100% sure about the serial "23V 07599". I originally had it noted in my list as "23V 10599", but that serial far exceeds the BS200 production run, which I believe was around 7800 bikes. I've made an educated guess that this serial was mis-read from the plate on the bike, and "7599" seems to fit in nicely with other figures.

Serial number 6800 was taken from a Dealer Service Letter describing mods to the Carburettor Float Pivots on the production line. It mentioned that all bikes from "21..06800" would be fitted with the modified carbs. The serial didn't include the month code, but the Service Letter was dated February 1969 and so I originally guessed at "21N" (i.e. February 69) for ths serial. BS350s were built in discrete batches, and it is lokely that the service letter was issued while the 350 production line was closed down, and refers to carb mods to be made from the start of the next production batch. Thus I now suspect that 21..6800 hadn't been built at that time, and probably was the first of the production batch built at the end of 1969 - which would probably make it 21V6800 or 21W6800 (Oct or Nov '69) - unless, of course someone out there knows different!  Thanks to Brian the Brit for spotting this one.

Hi,

Yes, your bike, serial number 23 K 04859, was built in November 1970.

"04859" lies between two known serial numbers "3732" (23 A - Jan 1970) and "6572" (23Q - May 1971). The only "K" month in the middil is November - hence November 1970.

Welcome to the site another Aussie. Coxy and I are keen BS fans. Keep in touch.

I traded a 1968 Blue BS 100 Sport for a new Hodaka 100B+ in 1972-73 at Maypow Motors Parramatta. Is it a coincidence?

Here is a photo of said bike

You can add my BS 50 sport to your list, the frame serial number is 13A029371
Which should make it a '66 even though it's titled 1970 (the year of sale or reconstructed title)

Ray k can you remember the first year that the 175 came to oz  as it turns out my serial number is 16d07020 which is 1966 i know that this bike was last registered in  Queensland in 1976 so it has to be an original oz import? if was 1966  that bs started importation this bike would have to be one of the first to arrive here.
p.s
thanks Graham your numbers are fantastic cheers.

Coxy
I know that there were 50s and 90s imported into Victoria from 1966, as for 175s ???
In NSW I think the first imports of BS bikes were by McCulloch in 1967. However, I stand to be corrected on this if anyone else knows.
