90 Trail old fork/ hub mod
« on: May 06, 2014, 06:53:42 AM »
I'm trying to rescue my 1965 90 trail.  It has had a rough life.  The more I do, the more I find I have to do.  Pretty much every system on the bike has been worked on in the past.  Most of the work was done by a farmer or brick layer.  Front forks are bent or twisted.  Front wheel has been replaced/ rebuilt with a 5.5" hub from a different bike.  There is no torque bar.  Forks have been modified to work with different hub.  Someone welded a spline on the fork.  Hub looks like it may be from a TMX?  There is no Bridgestone model codes on the brake shoes?

Lovely...man, this bike has had a rough go! My gut tells me a parts bike would at least give you the raw materials to restore, but I don't think what you show in your post is repairable (unmodable...if that's a word)...try Richard or you may find some forks on Ebay as well...

bert,  Not planning on reusing these forks.  Almost everything will need some attention.  I probably should use it for a parts bike, but not much usable.  Don't think it will ever win any shows, but I hope to rescue as much as I can.  Will be buying parts from everyone.  I'm in the collecting stage.  Still more damaged stuff I haven't got to yet.  mqtsteve

a true farmer would have done better work and most of the bricklayers that I know are meticulous craftsmen.

Gene, I know it's not going to be cheap or easy.  I basically got the bike for free.  I bought it with a much better condition 90 Sport (o.i.).  The person I bought them from was going try to use one as a parts bike.  I'm trying to get both back on the road.  I'm not interested in selling them when finished.  Thanks, I'll keep posting my progress.  Steve  (Gene do you have 90's for sale?)

Looks like a new bike Gene.  Is it original or restored.  My bike doesn't have any parts in as good shape.  I would have to use yours for parts, just kidding.  If I can get my bike close to 50-75% of yours I would be happy.  Thanks, mqtsteve

Gene, are your bikes for sale?  Do you have any other 90cc models?  I would like to get another one sooner or later.  I like the small bore bikes.  Live in a small town near Lake Superior, no interstate within 100 miles.  Small bikes much cooler then scooters!  (P.S. Still snow in the bush up here.)  Yooper pride!  mqtsteve

Thanks Gene!  I'm in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, on the south shore of Lake Superior.  About a seven hour drive to the twin cities.  I would love to check out your collection some time.  I don't make it to Minnesota often.  Working on two 90's now.  Will be looking for another project this fall, I'll give you a call in the future.  Thanks again, mqtsteve

More damage to the frame.  Motor mounts are bent.  This bike must of taken a blow to the front end.  Used a torch and BFH to straighten frame.  Repair is not perfect but should work.

might want to take a look at these. im only about 20 min away from the guy though he wants quite a bit and as far as i could tell the 90 in the back is stuck but in good shape. the one up front didn't have a way of turning it over to know the inside condition.
