I am not very skilled at identifying the smaller bikes. Which model is on the sign?

It's a 50 Sport, an earlier 65 or 66 model as is shown by the front forks - the later models had rebuildable forks. Also see the front mudguard (fender) stays.  Both 50 and 60 Sport were premix only.
That tank is common to 50, 60 Sports (premix) and 90 Trail, Deluxe, Mountain both oil injection and premix after circa 1967 - the earlier 90s were premix only with 'flat/squashed' sided tank and different pads. The SR 90 and 100 also had the same tank as the one shown on the sign.
The 90 Sport OI/premix and 100 sport and later TMX  had a different tank with different tank pads.

Advert from 1968 for GTR on eBay

I note that the bike in the Ad has no front numberplate and no blinkers, both compulsory in NSW in 1968. Last hurrah as McCulloch (the BS distributors in NSW) dropped Bridgestone in late 1968 to concentrate on Yamaha.

It's been a few days now and we've managed to NOT shock dcr, so I thought I'd add another pic. This one pretty much identifies the part, but we still need which BS bike it's for.....

Hi, Moonpup,

Well, that one had me stumped - I was thinking some form of magneto from the first picture. Now I see the word "Tachometer"  I wonder if it was part of the optional race kit for the 50 Sport or 90? The little singles have no take-off for a mechanical tacho, so electrickery was the only way to go.

Another silly question, are you sure it is Bridgestone, not a rogue part that got mixed up with a box of BS?

Hi Graham,

You're definitely on the right track with "Race" & "50". It is described by a seller on the Yahoo Japan auction site as a tachometer for a 50cc EJR Works bike. Opening bid on this item is $966.

Here is the link and the last pic....

The seller also has a couple more interesting bits for sale, such as this water cooled cylinder & head for the same bike... Bidding starts @ $2,417 (yikes!)

And finally, this water cooled cylinder & head for what he describes as being for a BS "factory racer".  Bids for this one start at... $1,933

I can almost hear the "ooohing and ahhhing" from the Bridgestone faithful. That is a very cool looking bit of history there. Would love to buy it but it's definitely out of my range.

Well, cylinder, head, piston, and a tacho. I've known successful restorations started and completed from little more than that.

I think I'll pass, though, as it's way outside my budget, but what a find.

A brilliant post, young sir!

There's a song One piece at a Time (Johnny Cash singing and it didn't cost me a dime) about building a car. This would be a very expensive resto to do that way. lol
