Excellent Project bike: 1969 Dual Twin

I doubt that it is a 1969 model, as Bridgestone Ageo Plant stopped making 175s in late 1967 and moved on to 200s in early 1968. (Reference: Graham Weekes' AKA 'Disc valve' bridgestone story as found on this site)

It could very well be titled as a '69.  In the USA, the Certificates of Origin did not have a manufacture year date on them, and they were registered as whatever year they were sold and registered at the BMV the first time.  Many dealers had motorcycles around for a year or two (or more), so they were originally registered years after their manufacture date.

Agree with Karl.
My GTR is titled as a 1969, but numbers show it was made July 1967.
Sounds like a good price for a DT, but my herd can't grow now either.

Good points Karl and Smokey.  I was going on the practice/laws in Australia. Which are that if a car/bike is sold after the manufacture date (e.g.2015) year even if new or unused it is referred to as a 2015 model even if sold with warranties years later (e.g. 2017). All vehicles manufactured or imported as far back as the 1960s would state the year of manufacture or assembly on a compliance plate attached to the vehicle. This is the model year. I think it was Federal legislation.
I think the Bridgestone bikes unlike some others e.g. Hondas didn't come with compliance plates in 1965 to 1967 in Australia.

    Here in the UK, a vehicle is still referrred to by the date of first registration, regardless of manufacture date.

  As far as I am aware, BS only started to put a US Conformity label on the headstock of the 1971 models, as shown below. So they should appear on  White GTOs and solid gold GTRs and show the month/year of manufacture, cross referenced against the stamped Frame Number. I am not sure if they were also on the 1970 gold/chrome model, any of our US friends confirm/clarify this.

               Thanks fellas, that's another loose end cleared up. Had never seen one of these labels until I found one on a GTO at DK motorcycles in Stoke a few years back. None of the red GTRs carried this label.

     These numbers can be a pain when it comes to registering a machine. The shipping company had used the Vin type, serial  number to issue an import tax paid, 'NOVA' certificate and the insurers also accepted it as the machine identity number. However, the MOT pass is logged against the frame number ( the guy wouldn't put the serial number in). I did explain this in the covering letter and just hope whoever deals with the registration realises that the current VIN system was not fully standardised back in 1970. Fingers crossed.   The good news is 'Historic Vehicles' built before 1972/3 do not have to pay an annual road tax fee, that saves a few bob.
