GTR Handlebars again
« on: November 07, 2015, 10:17:44 AM »
As we all know, GTR handlebars are made from unobtanium but someone must have found a very close match? I've been trawling Ebay for months looking at loads that might fit.

Before I buy 25 sets and send them all back, has anyone bought any and know that they are near enough?

My crude measurements (On bike No1) give me theses approximates:

Overal width 28" - 29"
Centre width 7"
Distance between clamps 4"
Rise 5"
Pull back 7"
Clutch/throttle grip straight portion 9"

All dimensions are approximate but not far out.

Any help, abuse, suggestions, encouragement or micky taking welcome.
Be nice - feel good

There was a good used set for sale on ebay this morning.  I believe the seller is a member of this site.

Hi Sye,
like you and probably other members have been keeping my eyes open at shows and on the net for bars that might be a reasonable match to the GTR. Haven't found any in 3years. Nearest I got was for a 125 Honda, about the right rise and upward bend angle but a bit short of pull back and kick down.
Even picked up a pipe bending machine (cheap) to have a go myself but it doesn't have a suitable small radius former.  Now what abuse and mickey taking do you want ??? ??? ;D :D ;D
Richard/Ray , Is it time for (another?) replica batch to be produced ?

PS. Spoke to another member about this the other day. They do look good with dropped 'ace' bars, see photos in Motorcycle sport', June 68. Might be on this site.
 Brian.

     These look pretty close     http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/SCL-2012070002-Body-motorcycle-parts-for_60111708479.html
   Brian.

They are the CG125 ones Brian. They're a little short on width ISTR.

Might have been able to get my mitts on a set.  ;)

There a number of custom handlebar manufacturers on the net.

Example.  http://www.brcustomcycles.com/

Perhaps its a U.K. issue, but handle bars have been available in the U.S. Recently a NOS one went for $136 (I think) at auction and a nice used one just went off as "ended". http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bridgestone-350-GTR-Handle-Bars-/161880407172?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=1cBZSzsh22aElFWoPCdATL%252BWwNU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I have four off GTR's that have been cleaned and chromed. One a little different, but how did these vary in production? Or the difference comes in straightening? Anyways, here is the dimensions from the average one:
Overal width 29.75" (extreme outside end of tubes)
Centre width 8.5" (tube center to tube center at the middle of the rise)
Distance between clamps 4"
Rise 5.38" (bars flat on ground to center of center tube)
Pull back 7" (extreme outside end of tube to center tube centerline)
Clutch/throttle grip straight portion 9.5 min."

Let me know if you need clarification or other measurements.

FYI - Kotaro made 20 sets back in 2009, and I believe they all sold pretty quickly at around $250 incl. shipping. http://bridgestonemotorcycleparts.com/index.php?topic=274.msg1096#msg109
