GTR Needle Valve Assembly
« on: September 14, 2013, 03:32:12 PM »
The Needle Valve Assy. that Richard offers list the part number as 1660-900 ( Before 21H).

The Parts Manual Lists two different Needle Valve Assemblies.  1660-9000 ( Before 21H )
and 1660-9010 ( After 21H ).

My question is...... Is the 9000 number for the GTR and the 9010 number for the GTO?  If so, anyone know the difference?

Thanks.

Steve,

Most all of the 9010 part numbers I've paid attention to prior to this one that you're asking about happened to be for GTO parts.

However, based on the vin/id # attached to this one, I'd have to say it's not specific to the GTO since 21H could apply to 350's built before or after Aug. of 1968 when there were no GTO's around.

Thanks Mike.  Any idea why there would be two different Needele Valve assemblies?  They only list one size carburetor for the GTR and GTO's  as far as I can tell.

Thanks.

Haven't a clue!  ;D  Mr. Reed or someone with more hands on experience is going to have to jump in on this one.

Wow!  Thanks for the pictures Steve.  I have the design without the molded in flange (seat).  Do you see any reason why these two designs can't be interchanged?
The design with the molded in flange (seat) is readily available, and looks to be the one Richard offers.
The only thing I can see being an issue is the float setting might be slightly different between the two designs.  Thoughts???

Steve,
The needle valves are not the same, they have different thread sizes i hope this picture helps.
Thanks.

Thanks Steve.  I didn't even notice that in your posted pictures.  So.....I guess that confirms that there are two different designs of carburetors for these bikes.
Looks like the needle valve without the shoulder (flange) is for the early models and is the smaller thread size.
The needle valve with the shoulder (flange) is for the later models and is the larger thread size.
Looks like they are both size 2.0  Is that correct?  Would it be possible to measure the diameter (of the threaded part) of both sizes and post here?
Thanks.

Steve,
The needle valve without the shoulder is OD 7MM O.80 THREAD PITCH.
Needle valve with the shoulder is OD 9MM 1.00 THREAD PITCH.
Thanks.

PS EVERYTHING ELSE IS THE SAME ETC.

Did you have any luck sourcing the needle valve that Richard does not supply?

You could try here or similar Mikuni specialists.

Sudco is also a good bet. They've had any mikuni part I have ever needed.

No luck.  Absolutely no one has this.  Not even Sudco.  I had to buy another set of carbs that would accept the NOS valves Richard carries.
Don't waste your time looking, I put months of research into it.

Looks like RC is supplying the 9mm needle valves from his photo listing,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bridgestone-350-Needle-and-Seats-fits-float-carbs-NEW-/141253923676?

I have a pair of 7mm bought from http://www.motocarb.com two years ago, it's the 7mm you trying to find isn't it Steve?

Hi Ziggy,
Yes Richard only has the larger size.  My original carbs took the smaller size (which are impossible to find).  I'm good now because I changed out the carbs to the ones that accept the larger size.  I then installed the NOS set I already had from Richard.
Thanks.

Has anyone tried using the below needle valve and machining up a spacer to set the correct needle height? (a spacer would mean the float tang isn't bend at a horrible angle to make it work...)
