50 Sport seat

Can anyone post the measurements of an original 50 Sport seat pan? Mostly interested in actual length.

I bought a Pit Replica seat cover and its about 2 inches too short. Trying to rule out my 50 not having the original seat.

I measured the original seat pan from the 50 Sport and it was 51 cm (510 mm) or 20 inches (from rear to tank bracket)
 
I also measured the pan from a 90 Trail – it was also 51 cm

dcr/ RayK,  Do the small bikes use the same seat pans?  I need to replace (or repair) the seat pans for my 90 sport and trail.  The originals are in bad shape.  Both are cracked, bent and may be unusable.  Planning on using Pitreplica covers.  Thanks, Steve

The 90 Trail/Deluxe have the same seat pan as the 1966 50 Sport. NB the 90/100 Sport brackets are different - the pan looks similar however.

FINALLY got the seat cover issue resolved and have the correct one. Was time consuming but everyone is happy now.

Anyone have experience with missing attachment teeth on the seat pan? Looking for a way to fix this issue but nothing immediate comes to mind.

Dan, search ebay for "MOTORCYCLE TACK STRIP", you'll get multiple hits for similar strips being sold by US sellers also, so won't require shipping from Australia.

I wish those had been around a few years ago. When I repaired a couple of 350 seat pans, I had to cut my own out of sheet steel.

Thanks to both of you guys. How did you attach them to the pan? I'm assuming elmers glue won't work.

I brazed mine with an oxy/aceteylene welder.  If there is enough stock left on the edge of the original pan, you could use pop rivets, or even a good epoxy. In my case, I was also replacing a couple sections of the flange on the seat pan that were nearly non-existent.

Here are a few pictures of my completed 1965 50 Sport. I have a few small items to finish but it runs good and looks pretty cool. My wife said "I cant believe that thing actually runs". Thanks dear

I recovered the seat with a Pit Replica cover and some tips from the fine folks here.

I kept telling myself that I would sell this once I got it finished, but I am not sure I can part with it now. I run it around the neighborhood and get a lot of strange stares from my soccer mom neighbors.
