New gto good runner no gears
« on: September 27, 2017, 08:00:56 AM »
Just started my latest gto and it runs really well then my luck ran out no gears they all select but the wheel runs free the clutch is really stiff and would be a misery to use is it possible it could have something to do with it any advise would be most appreciated thanks very much
Kind regards Alan John

I've just taken the clutch apart and with all the plates off and turning the basket by hand the back wheel turns and is in gear will a new set of plates cure the problem or can I do something with the old ones I don't know what a good or a bad plate should look like can anyone help please thanks

Do you have 7 fiber discs, 6 metal discs and 1 thick aluminum spacer disc as seen in this pic?

Ok, just thought I'd check and see if the previous owner had left something out or not, but I guess they didn't.

As far as the push rod going back flat, I don't have the answer off the top of my head and am unable at the moment to check what's happening on my bike.

Someone will probably jump in with the answer soon though and if not, I'll get back to you on that.

This is the position of the push rod with the pressure plate removed....

From what you say, sounds like the pressure plate wasn't lined up on it's mark with the clutch centre. The p/plate will then sit on the center and can't compress the plates. IE, no drive to rear wheel. Shows you how in the manual.

If clutch is stiff, clean the worm actuator on the left side, grease well before puting back and grease the pushrod parts at the same time, don't lose the 1/4 ball or 6x10mm spacer.

Unspoiled by progress.
I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!

Thanks for your help
I think what I did was force the clutch lever in and it wouldn't release it now does and all the gears now work that's a relief although the clutch is slipping badly compared to a gearbox that's minor l'm sure it can't be difficult to adjust l'll have a go later
Kind regards
