wheel bearings
« on: October 03, 2016, 03:19:05 PM »
I just removed the front and back wheel from the 1966 Sport 90 to replace the original tires. Does anyone know if they make replacement bearings or do I just have the tire shop clean and re-grease them? The grease appears to be very hard like after 50 years!

If they aren't rusty or loose internally, clean and reuse. If you choose to replace, there are numbers on the side of the races, those size bearings are cheap and available anywhere. You can try a local bearing store, Richard Clark or McMaster-Carr.  McMaster will ship same day and you'll probably have them in two days.

thanks, they do not look rusty or loose- just some dried out grease- I will ask the shop to clean and regrease them. I do have another spare front wheel for the Sport 90 that has better chrome on the rim, but I am leary of using it since it was not on the original bike. I will show it to the bike shop to see if it will be ok to use.
