350 Oil leak from case bolt(s)
« on: May 15, 2017, 11:03:15 AM »
Is a small oil leak from one of the bottom case bolts normal for the 350 GTR? I checked and they are all torqued down correctly.

Not normal, but it can happen.  Most of those bolts go straight through the bottom case into the top.  The gasket sealer you put between the case halves during assembly SHOULD keep any oil from escaping into the bolt holes.

Just days ago, I had to remove my right side (clutch) engine cover to fix an oil leak much like you mention.

There is at least one side cover screw hole which intersects one of the bottom case half bolt holes. Specifically the right front case bolt. If there is a leak between the side cover gasket and the screw, the oil will get into the screw hole, and from there to the case bolt, where it can leak out.
A simple solution would be to use a soft sealing washer for the case bolt that's leaking, something like soft aluminum or copper.

I did three things to stop the leak:
Put a new side cover gasket on
Used gasket sealer on both sides
Added a bit of Loctite wicking grade sealant to the side cover screw.

So far, no leak!

We'll see how it does over time...........
