To use the oil pump it disconnect it?

We got the oil pumps working today, however, do we trust them enough?
Reading the manual they mix oil from 100-1 at idle up to 20-1 at full revs.

My thoughts are if I am not going to trust the oil pump why not disconnect it and just premix fuel?  If I do this is there anything I need to do with the pump so no damage is caused?

If I trust the pump how do I know that it is working properly, do I still mix fuel?

What do others do?

I am thinking the same thing for my 175 and seriously considering removing the pump or at least not using it and blocking off the ports for it and running only premixed fuel

I always premix on the first tank full of fuel and that will give you some time to see if the oil pump is working properly!!

How do you tell if it's working properly?
We used a bleeder and have oil coming out of the pump, so it appears to be running correctly.  How do we know it is delivering enough oil?

You say you have oil in the lines and no air and oil coming out of the pump and its set to the book .
A quart of two stroke oil represents 500 miles so i would put half quart of oil in the oil tank and
check the level with a bar and mark it so you should use about half a quart of oil to 250 miles
But keep checking the oil level to see how much you use to the miles but remember to premix on
a full tank of fuel.

I agree with what these guys are saying. Run a mix at first. When I got my MKII SS back on the road, I ran a 32:1 mix in the tank for the first couple of tanks while I monitored how much oil I used from the oil tank, via the oil pump. Once I was confident that the pump was working, I stopped using the mix. For several years now I've used the oil injection system with complete success. Good luck.

I believe the OP was wondering whether the pump could be permanently disabled and ONLY run pre-mix. I haven't looked closely enough at my "new to me" DT175 to see exactly where the injection oil is delivered. If it is only delivered in the intake stream, after the carburetor, (ie Yamaha Autolube) it should be possible to eliminate the pump completely and permanently. If it is delivered to any other point, such as a main bearing first, (ie Suzuki Posi Lube) then the pump can never be by passed or disconnected without eventual permanent damage to the engine.
Anybody got the quick answer to the delivery point for the injection oil?

Why not consult the maunal. You will eventually need this to continue your work on your new acquisition.
