175 Engine Rebuild Questions
« on: January 19, 2010, 12:32:21 PM »
Hi all,

I totally disassembled my 175's engine and have been following the Clymer Service Manual found in the downloads section of this site.

I've just about gotten everything back together but need a little clarification.

On page 23 of the .pdf, step #46 says to "Coat the left rotary valve cavity with oil".  What is the rotary valve cavity?  Just the area where the disc rests against the case halves?  If so, any reason the manual says to do it for the left rotary valve but not the right?

The next question is in regards to steps #53 and #55:

53. Using a pressure type oil can inject oil
through the screw hole on the right side of the
oil injection pump until oil is seen coming out
of the oil level screw hole.

55. Using the pressure type oil can, fill the right
hand oil injection line before installing a line
onto the right banjo connector.

My question is, do these steps mean to use 2-cycle oil or regular engine oil?

Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

Paul

1) Yes just coat sides of cases around rotary valve with two cycle oil, as it will end up in the cylinder,

2)  use the same oil, that you are using in the oil injection tank, which should be a quality two cycle oil injection type.
I use Klotz in all my stones..

Thanks a ton Sam!  By the way, what would you suggest for the case oil?  The manual says 25ozs of 10W30.  Thanks again!

Paul

I use Klotz, 4 stroke trans oil  in the BS gearbox, not the kind for Harleys engine oil.
But the kind they sell to be used in wet clutch trans applications.  Say in a modern dirt bike.

Seem to make the tans shift better too.

Luke,

Not yet, probably won't get back to it till the weekend. But all the questions are cleared up so shouldn't be a problem from here on out, thanks though!
