What Is This?
« on: January 13, 2015, 03:49:21 PM »
I believe this part mounts in the battery box area. It seems rare and I could not find it in any parts manual exploded views. Very thin metal construction.

Maybe a home made rectifier protector.

A blue-gray paint that remains matches the color found on the inside of the battery cover. Note the stiffening dart in two places; a homemade part would not have this stamped feature. A sloppy job of soldering the tabs together though. If no one knows I'll assume it is homemade and set it on the shelf.

I have no idea what that is, but my vote would be "home made"

I was thinking maybe it's a tool tray, I wouldn't want it wrapped round the rectifier as lack of cooling air would soon kill the rectifier, might be it's not home made but if it's part of a motorcycle it's not a GTR.
Put it on a shelf like we all do then maybe someday you might see what it is, be a pity to bin it in case it turns out to be a rare part from Bridgestone or another motorcycle  :o

The stiffening darts are often found on some brands of soup cans....and I doubt the factory over did such cobbly fold-overs on their mounting tabs.

That's it...it's a soup carrier, in case you get peckish in the middle of a ride. Might also hold half a sandwich.
 ;D ??? ;D

Maybe a homemade spare spark plug holder? The toolbox wasn't much larger than just enough to carry the tool bag.  Back in the day of leaded fuel, you needed at least one set of spare plugs with you, and if you were going on a long trip, 2 sets was even better.  However, the strange shape doesn't quite fit with spark plugs in their boxes.

Sorry to get serious, the mobile soup kitchen is a better answer.

From the side profile, it does look like it would fit below the existing battery box, between the vertical frame tube and the rear mudguard. The bracket maybe attaches to one of the rear engine mounts and is probably what causes the cracking recently posted. Traces of congealed tomato soup are visible by the mounting hole. ;D Heat from the exhausts would keep it warm. The soup tap is obviously missing from the hole on the opposite side. Could also double up as an emergency chain oiler but not sure what flavour soup would best for this purpose..............................leak and potato??????.        No jokes about it not having 'mushroom inside', pullease. ::) ::)

Never used the dishwasher, but used the oven for starter ring gears, bearings and other press fit parts several times.

Strange the link doesn't work for you Bert as it works on my pc?

The photo I'm trying to show is on this page of my website, an RE5 radiator curing after being painted.

Try the above link.

First link didn't work for me either but the second one did.  I've always liked that Suzuki and the concept of the rotary engine.  Beautiful bike!
