I actually bolted some parts together today, the first steps toward reassembly!
The frame now has front and rear suspension, rear fender and tail light, headlight shell, instruments and handlebars.
Stripped the bad power coat job off with a combination of Zinsser Strip Fast and Eastwood powercoat dissolver. Took several coats, but got me down to clean metal again. I found a small shop that does excellent work. They put on a zinc primer under the black top coat, and the coating is still 1/2 the thickness of my original job.
The power coater said they didn't want to try clear coating my brake plates and drums, they don't think it will stick. I'm convinced it will, so I've ordered an Eastwood coating gun and plan to try a bit of powercoating myself. At least if it doesn't work out, I know how to strip it off again!!
Has anyone tried clear powercoating to replicate the original clear coating on brake drums and plates?
