Deadly silence?
« on: September 01, 2018, 05:13:59 AM »
Gday all
I had to put together a clutch today out of various year model clutches
The thing is it went together ok with mismatched plates some worn some not and it works ok the thing is it doesn't make a sound it doesn't rattle or anything
I've never had a quiet clutch usually they out noise a Ducati! What's going on?
Is it possible ive over tightened things? Though it's free
The basket is a 69 as well as the spacer for the plates
The hub is a 68
The pressure plate is 67
The clutch plates are a mixed bunch
Springs all new as well as the push rods

Any thoughts cheers

ok, i'll take a stab at answering your question.....  imho and based on my experience owning a number of different makes with dry clutches, i do not believe it is requisite for a properly assembled dry clutch to be noisy when disengaged.  certainly, a particular design, such as the GTR, i can imagine one would expect to hear noise on disengagement, however, if you know the parts are properly assembled, not hearing the rattle of disengagement, i would not think is something to be concerned about.  a couple options i would consider, 1. disassemble the assembly, reinspect, reassemble and go from there.  2.  ride it and keep a close ear on things, if all seems in proper working order go with it, or disassemble and reinspect.  just my thoughts being completely unfamiliar with the parts of a GTR clutch, but being familiar with the internal workings of many motorcycles, having done many rebuilds, repairs, restorations.

I'll be doing that it's unnerving not hearing the rattle
There was changes to the clutch I think in 68 or 69 though I don't think the pressure plate or clutch plates were charged so I don'think it'd be that
I should also mention that the basket is perfect and spins true
I will try to get a video of it
