new member --i guess the first of many emails
« on: September 25, 2017, 02:03:01 PM »
Hi
This is my first post
Earlier this year i managed to get my grubby hands on a GTO 350
Engine no; NA1-08991 Frame no; 009028 White box no;21W08891
Gold tank (green/blue paint  under the gold --- no chrome
most parts came with the bike  just a few bits missing
although I've been on a mission to pick up all sorts of bits
spare engine cases exhaust pipe tool kit (nearly complete) ,number plate
handbook even a Bridgestone watch!
most cycle bits have now been cleaned or replaced
bores and pistons are like new
just need to sort the engine --- its seized
guess I'm going to be spending big with Richard !!!!!!!!

       Hi Marc.
Welcome to the BS (addiction?) forum. Great to hear of another UK GTO, that's another on my list.
From the numbers you quote, yours is likely to have had an all painted white tank with black stripes, what colour are the side covers ?   Your numbers also help to confirm BS built more than 1000 white GTOs.
If the bores and pistons are like new, that's highly unusual (unless replaced at some time) and lucky!, so what do you think is locking the engine.
Good luck with the rebuild and keep us informed of how it's going. We're all here to help if you have any questions.
     Brian.

Hi Brian
A work colleague  in the U.S who found the bike for me  guarantees me  it has had only 1 previous owner (friend of the family)  and just
900 miles on the clock  he thought it was seized in the bores as it had sat in a dry garage for so
many years
when i got the bike i removed the barrels which came off really easy but the bottom end wont move (it's currently
soaking in oil)
I think the bike at some stage must have got  damp or wet as all the chrome on the front end has peeled off
the rear mudguard looks like it was under sealed?
The answer to your question one side panel is a new white one the other  has been painted gold but its white under the gold
Do you know where i can get the pin striping for the tank ?
and would you know of any good mechanics in the U.K. who would be able to sort my engine out

Did you find a source for the graphics in the UK or did you breakdown and use the company I linked in your previous thread?

    Hi Marc,
Sounds like you made a good choice in aquiring your first Bridgestone.

Can you see any rust on the flywheels, unfortunately, from experience,  they are prone to rusted cranks, especially if someone has used a hosepipe to clean the engine with the side covers off !! The condition of your barrels is a good sign. Hopefully there is something else (less expensive) locking the engine.
You should find the front and rear mudguards and the chainguard were undersealed, it was hand brushed on at the factory.  A bit of overkill on the front guard..........it's stainless steel.
Do as much of the restoration work as you are able, yourself. The economics of farming out an engine rebuild is not good. You would be unlikely to recover your costs in the short term. It is a relatively easy engine to work on and was designed for home maintenance.
                                                        Brian.
