has anyone machined a squish area into 175 cc heads to suit the 200 cc wider bore ,

I'm not aware of anyone, but it shouldn't be too difficult. We've machined 175 heads for racing the 175 with pistons with different dome shapes.  Since the spark plug is in the center of the head, it's easy to adapt and hold the head in a lathe.

There is no advance mechanism, pretty normal for two-strokes of the era.

Out of curiosity, has anyone pulled their heads of one found a powder sitting on top of the piston? My parts bike had this when I was trying to free up the engine. Might be looking at another shot engine.

There is a plastic wrapped foam seat that goes on top and around to make the seat comfortable and less likely to absorb water. I van take some pics of mine later this week. I'm out of town.

Work on the Bridgestone had stalled for a while,
I bought a 1980 Yamaha XS1100 which I am going to attach to a Watsonian child/adult sidecar in true Wallace and Grommit fashion.
However I have just placed an order with Richard for all the new engine parts I need,  any help with re-upholstering the seat would be a great help also does anyone know of a paint code for the mettalic red paint as my paint guy was asking for it to help find a match?

There are several threads on the Flamboyant Red color and the ability to match it. Below is from one of the articles I saw:

I think Bridgestone used a then state of the art three-step process where:
Step One - an underbase coat that looks like a champagne color with very fine metallic content
Step Two - a multi-coat spray out with candy apple red
Step Three - a clear coat

from another site

Flamboyant Red paint is a close match with 1989 GM (General Motors) Brilliant Red Metallic, GM Code: 68, Dupont Code: B8947, base coat, clear coat.

That Dupont Brilliant Red Metallic is what I painted mine with.  It's the right shade of candy red, but has too much metallic (although I like it that way).  However, when it's mixed (no one will have it premixed anyway), you can have them leave out most or all of the metallic. I think the original had all the metallic in the base coat, not in the color coat.  There is further information from Nick Holt in another post (the one DCR referred to in his post) on this site:

It might be worth a try for someone to use one of the new spray cans of metallic paint for wheels in a champagne color or close to it, with a conventional spray can of candy apple red, then a 2K Clear coat over that. It would be a $40 paint job that might look nearly like the original, instead of a several hundred dollar paint job.  I may try that on the 175 I bought from Bill Turner when I get started on getting it running.

Karl, that's actually the plan I have for my '66 DT resto. I want to give it as much of a factory look as possible so im staying away from the high dollar body shop paint. I even spent 15 minutes on the phone with Shelbyville Plating telling them how I wanted my chrome parts done to match factory look rather than that show chrome look that needs sun glasses to look at.

Well it took a while but its now back in the land of the living...... Ring ding a ding and a cloud of blue smoke , sounds sweet , I didn't preload the kick start spring enough so it flops back when running . I will get some more photos up in while ....
