BS350 condensors
« on: July 30, 2016, 06:39:34 PM »
Has anyone found a suitable replacement for the condensor on our 350 models? I'd be happy to relocate them to the coils if required.

I went down to the local auto shop and had very limited success in finding one with a semi-workable bracket to mount.

I'm trying to update the ignition with new parts as the main fuse keeps blowing once the bike is started. Will be replacing coils and chasing wiring at the same time.

Kawasaki KZ550/KZ650 are perfect. Only one thing to make it fit needs to be done...... the width of the condensers is just a tad too wide ( it won't go into the condendors compartment ) Easy fix for this....a pliers to squeeze them together to make them slip right in. Try to PRE-fit before sqeezing them together and can see how much it needs ( believe me is very minimal ) The lubrication holder for the felt oiler is also present in a perfect place which also is a good thing :)

Thanks bsforever.

Moonpup also came up with the goods via email.  Copy and paste below..

.Also, for points & condensers, these part numbers for the Kawasaki A-7 & A-1’s are replacements for the BS 350’s...

21013-035  *** condenser

21008-27, 21008-28  *** points

21019-005. *** felt brush

Kawasaki A-1 and A-7, which all use Kokusan Denki alternators (EN-06, EN-09, EN-11)

Hopefully this helps someone else who searches the inter web.

Ry

The best bet is the Kawasaki parts, but if you do want to use auto parts, the late 60's/early 70's Chevy condensors are the same capacitance and have a wrap-around bracket that can be used for mounting, usually just drill and tap small holes in the frame tube near the coils.

I have used the setup Karl is describing for condensers. I have also used large hose clamps to hold automotive coils against the center frame tube. I had to have the coils pointing opposite directions to allow fitting them under the tank. I also wrapped them with inner tube rubber to keep them secure without having to make the clamps too tight. Not necessarily a pretty set-up, but if its all tucked under the tank, it will not be noticeable. This was a desperation solution back in the days between Rockford and Richard and before the internet.
