Fitting Badges
« on: May 22, 2016, 06:03:11 PM »
Just wondered how you guys have tackled fitting badges to either the GTO or GTR side panels using the little rivets? I've just had the paintwork recently re-done on my GTO so this was a job I decided to take on earlier today and thought it would be more straightforward than it turned out.
I pressed the front of the badge/rivet against the head of a bolt secured in the vice and tapped the rivet at the rear of the panel expecting it to splay out and secure the badge...well, it didn't quite do that! The badge is sort of fixed but slightly loose and the rivets, when viewed from the front are both not straight.
I'm sure there's a better way than this...

Thanks, Steve

Somewhere in the deep dark recesses of the toolbox that I used when I was still involved in the field of agricultural endeavor, is a tool specifically designed for hollow rivets.  It looks a lot like a medium sized nail set with a nipple that fits in the hollow of the rivet.  On a B/S badge it would take about six hands to hold everything in place to use this without ruining the cover  and/ or the paint job.  Google hollow rivet tool and a number of tools will show up.  Homebello had a tool that looked like it might work.
