front forks
« on: May 21, 2012, 08:34:30 PM »
The Ducati was leaking some front fork oil after receiving it from the shipment across a few state lines.
I thought maybe it had some damage done from being cinched down too tightly.
A friend told me I should try some 35 mm film being run around the seal to see if some dirt was causing the leak.
I've only put 12 miles on it since doing it Saturday, but the fork tube is nice and dry.
Definitely a cheap thing to try before replacing a seal.
There was also a video on you-tube showing the technique being done on a dirt bike.

You were able to find some 35mm film?

I have hundreds of old negatives and photos I took during my Navy days, and I really used film until about 2005.
Maybe in a few years I can custom cut the negs and sell for motorcycle use - not.
The bike now has 60 miles since the film trick and the fork is still dry.
