175 Dual Twin Charging Problem?
« on: November 07, 2011, 11:16:42 AM »
Thought I'd throw out a weird issue I'm having and see what the experienced folks may have to offer.

My 175 has what I think is a charging problem.  It is one of the earlier models that has the charge control switch below the ignition switch.....the switch is supposed to be pulled out when traveling below 35 mph and pushed in when traveling above 35 mph.

I've got a brand new, fully charged battery in it.

When the switch is pulled out, it runs great and revs smoothly when opening the throttle.

When the switch is pushed in, it seems to bog down and starts chugging when opening the throttle.

The manual I have for the 175 DT mentions the following as potential culprits:
- selenium rectifier
- generator
- key switch
- charge control switch

Any ideas to approaching this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Paul
