NOS 350 Dynamo Reference Pictures

I was recently able to get my hands on a nos 350 dynamo and thought it might be useful to post up some pics showing the finishes and various "whatnots" found on a nos unit to those individuals that might have plans on restoring theirs.

The main body has what looks like a "turned" section on the part closest to the points cover. The rest of the body has a matted cast look. The main screws & the "disc plates" (?) are cadmium yellow.

The cover is zinc plated, while the screws are cadmium. The base plate inside is cadmium as well.

It also came with a small strip of either rubber or a fibre like paper underneath the condenser to prevent shorting out. (sorry, I haven't checked out which material it is yet.)

I also noted that where the plastic sheathing that covers the wiring goes into the grommet on the body, they used something that looks like contact adhesive to create a seal there.

          Nice find !!  Very helpful to see an NOS dynamo, thanks for posting pictures.

       Where was the condenser insulator fitted, photo ? Not seen one of those before.

       I notice the 4mm screws all have multi slot head for flat or crosspoint driver, the original (early ?) dynamos used flat blade slot screws only. Always thought that was slightly odd considering most of the screws on a BS were crosspoint. Maybe the original designers felt a single slotted screw was more suited to repeated use by home mechanics?
    Another example of BS attention to detail ??............. They didn't make changing the condensers easy, though.

Hi Brian,

In the pic below, the arrows point to the 2 exposed ends of the strip of insulating material I referred to.

Also, I have two 67 GTR & two 70 GTO dynamos and all of them have flathead screws only. So I'm thinking that either they started using the multi slotted screws on the 71 bikes or they only showed up on the dynamos that were in the parts inventory. That's my best guess!

           Doh..................condenser insulation is obvious with the arrows added.   Don't know why I didn't see it before  .   Thanks Pup.

       I do remember (only just!)  my original GTR 'Owners Manual' had  a long section explaining how the dynamo ran at half engine speed and therefore had two lobes on the points cam to provide the correct number of sparks per revolution of the crank.  Could never understand that as the dynamo ran at engine speed but now realise they did a 'quick job' on the GTR manual and simply borrowed that section from the 175 manual, even though it was incorrect for the 350.

Was this used on the HS175?

I have the same numbers on the front plate - except I have "EN07" instead of 06


Is this 1703-8002?   (pic #2)


If not are the points the same (1752-8001 and 1757-8001)??
