Oil tank outlet seal
« on: April 12, 2018, 09:15:42 AM »
Howdy

My B-stone GTR project is nearing completion but I have one nagging issue...

I cannot get the outlet on the bottom of the oil tank to seal. The threaded flange/port is not cracked. I think I just need to have the correct seal on the bolt / banjo fitting. Is there a readily available sealing washer outside of hoping to find a 40 year old NOS sealing washer(s)..?

I used bonded seals/ dowty seals on the banjo. Your local oring suppler should be able to assist.

They were M8 or M10, I don’t remember.

Good idea Hardy. So far the fibre washers I've used are holding well. Will take a hard look at any more tanks to make sure they have a smooth, flat surface before painting. I've also cured leaks from aluminum washers by sanding them smooth on both sides before installation, if used washers are necessary.

Well, as turned out, it wasn’t the bolt. It was the sight window. The rubber was significantly degraded, and the leaking oil went to the lowest point - the bolt.
Replaced with NOS and all is dry.
