About to start rebuilding, advice wanted
« on: September 28, 2016, 03:04:43 AM »
I am about to start rebuilding my 175dt,
The engine was stripped,  parts replaced,
What is the best gasket maker to use to join the cases?
I have permeatex ultra copper ( highest temperature rated).

I believe the Permatex Ultra Copper should be fine.  I've even used it to reseal used head gaskets on my BS175 racer multiple times with no leakage.
There is a thread on this forum about the subject: http://bridgestonemotorcycleparts.com/index.php?topic=1703.msg6293#msg6293

I used the same stuff. Works great and had no issues.

I have only used Threebond 1194. Available at most motorcycle shops.

https://www.amazon.com/Three-Bond-Liquid-Gasket-TB1194/dp/B0012TUVAW

Just a thin schemer on one case half spread with the finger tip. Never had an issue.

I'm sure there are a lot of good products out there.  I've always had perfect results with Yamabond 4.

On the 350, BS originally recommended sealant on one side of the case only but later changed it (possibly due to leakage issues) to sealant on both sides of the case. Don't put too much on, just enough to produce a small bead on the case edges when bolted up.

I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!

Probably goes without saying, but make sure the mating surfaces are free of burrs and raised spots.
