1966 Bridgestone DT175... Is it worth it?
« on: April 04, 2016, 07:47:15 PM »
So I am completely new to bridgestones but I'm thinking about picking one up. I found a 1966 Bridgestone DT 175 and the guy doesn't seem to know much about it but he only wants $450. Is that a good price even if it ends up needing a lot of work? Thanks in advance!

Only my opinion -
1. Is the engine all there to tell if it rotates and has compression and spark?
2. Getting cylinders replated can be $200 each, plus rings and possibly pistons.
3. Does it have a title?

If 1) is yes and both conditions seem good
2) hopefully not needed
3) yes
Probably not a bad starting price to make a fun bike, but don't plan on doing it for selling at a profit. These are labors of love!
My GTR restoration is starting to look more like a bucket list item to me.
Seeing the drivers around Phoenix and the number of large shredded tire chunks on the highways here isn't pushing it up the list any.

I reckon if the mufflers are good go for it. It seems that there are some parts missing carbs boots. Air filter etc. Also it's a early model so there are differences in parts to the later models

What's the worse that can happen?

Worst case you blow 450$

Best case you become a bs addict! Join the club, I started with a 175, now I have 3 and a gtr!

Just my opinion here, but that's about a $200.00 bike. As pointed out by Old Smokey - i just had both cylinders for my '66 175DT replated and that was a $400 investment. Im afraid to start adding up all the money I have into mine and it's only about 90% done.

As beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is the value of a restoration project.

I agree with dcr, but I also agree with hardy. So if you can get the price down and acquire an addiction at the same time, its all good!
