Right hand shifting?
« on: November 18, 2008, 09:37:18 PM »
O.K., so I would like to convert one of my 350's to a right hand shifter, just so it is more consistent with my vintage Brit bikes...  I am assuming the shifter is the same, but I'll need a new brake pedal.

Has anyone seen a 350 set up this way?  Anything I need to take into consideration in making this conversion?

Where can I get a left hand brake pedal?  Very used would be acceptable....

You will need the left brake lever and the left longer brake cable, I do not have
either but CPC had the cable some time back

Thanks
Richard Clark

I've seen both on E-Bay occasionally, but not currently.

This is on Ebay right now. I also want to do the conversion I have a brake pedal and cable but according to the Bridgestone letters.
http://www.webeireann.net/redimport/bridgestone/service-letters/BSG-0064.pdf
There are has to be a new Kick starter lever 2680-9010
Right foot spacer 3728-9010
12 X 60 hex bolt 09511-153
Brake pedal spring 3821-9010
Right change pedal 2580-9010
or there is a complete conversion kit 8C-1534

I wonder if Redimport or Richard Clark has any of these parts:

Yes most of those parts are needed. The shift lever bends out 1 1/2" to miss the right case. (I just bought one on E-bay from Swapmeetman) also the right foot pedal has to be moved out about 10MM to clear the shifter. I'm going to make a spacer out of a old foot pedal bracket.
The brake pedal is a complete reversal of the original as is the spring. I'm thinking the spring could work with a little adjusting. The brake cable is about 43" long.
It looks like the kick start lever will only hit at the bottom of the stroke.

As a rule, anything bs that  ebay guy, swapmeetguy has, is available at cps, as that is where
he gets his stuff, I was there once when they arrived from ohio. The bought a big load to resell.
I do know that cpc does have that long cable and the funny brake lever. Jeff

Jeff: Thanks for the advice I got all the other parts I need except for the different 9010 starter lever from CPC. It looks like one can get by with the original.

I went out to my shed yesterday and put on the new left hand brake lever on my GTO. The starter lever hits the left hand brake lever at the bottom of the stroke. As far as I can see every part in the service letter is needed for the left brake, right shift conversion.
http://www.webeireann.net/redimport/bridgestone/service-letters/BSG-0064.pdf
I have all the parts with the exception of the 2680-9010 kick start lever to make the conversion work. I have also checked with Ray @ Redimports (he has not even seen this part), Richard Clark, CPC and Dusty Jordan.
A friend of mine (A 50'S old Chevy restorer) says he can refabricate (change the bends to clear the kick starter) the left hand brake lever so the kick starter will clear I will have to rechrome after he is done.
I would rather go the route of putting the 2680-9010 kick starter lever and have it a totally original, if anyone can help with this part.

I have now rebent (heated with a tourch) the new left hand brake lever. The Original kick starter clears the rebent lever. The lever then hit the swingarm nut. Simple fix I turned around the swingarm bolt to have the nut on the right side. Everything clears works great. I'm going to have the brake lever rechromed.

Thanks for everyones help. Tony O.
