Rear brake cable installation help 175HS
« on: January 06, 2017, 08:19:54 AM »
When I removed the useless old rear brake cable I didn't take a picture of how it was attached at the pedal end because I'm a silly boy.

Now that I'm putting it together I can't for the life of me work out how it goes. The pedal pivot goes through the frame and the arm is attached to the inside using a return spring. It looks as if the cable arm points downwards as there isn't room at the top but if it's put in this way then it will push the cable, not pull it when the pedal is depressed. The cable won't fit anyway as it has an eye on the end and the arm insert is designed for a large nipple.

I've been scratching my head all morning and still haven't been able to work it out. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Sye

Sye,

I know the feeling. That is why I have the parts manual
next to me when I am working on project.

My wife says my memory is selective.

My wife said I don't listen to what she says, at least, I think that's what she said.  ;D :D ;D                       Brian.

It is a little odd Brian & Randy. Instead of the foot pedal pulling the cable tighter, it actually pushes the outer sleeve towards the rear hub, whilst the inner cable is held in place by an eye on the centre stand securing bolt. Most weird and not something I've come across before.

It works though....

    Sye,
I have come across this before, where the outer cable does the work and not the inner but I can't remember where. Could be the gear change linkage on my X-trail, too cold and wet to go and have a look.                             Brian.
