Another dumb question

hello all, another question came to light as I prepare to restore this bike. I had asked about the serial number plate on the frame in regards to powder coating and there is a number on the steering neck. Is there an actual engine serial number on the engine that is used for registration or am I just blind as I couldn't fine one. Thanks

Yes, there is an engine number stamped on the upper rear surface of the top engine case, behind the dynamo, on the front of the rear engine mount on the right (brake) side. If this is a 350 it will be of the form NA1-0xxxx. The xxxx should be close to the last 4 digits on the frame plate. These are sometimes stamped very faintly, so clean the angled flat surface on the front of the engine mount pretty well...

I found a number CXXX on the back of the engine case right where the two halves meet. Both halves are stamped with the CXXX number. I s this the allusive number I am looking for?

Nope.... the number you're looking for is located in the vicinity of the "red rectangle" on this pic....

Much better description than mine 'pup (a thousand words and all that)! The Cxxx numbers (being the same) indicate matched upper and lower engine cases. They were machined together to assure alignment of the bores the crank bearings ride in.

Moonpup you saved the day, I found the elusive serial number right where you guys said it was. Wow it is so faint that had you not sent the photo of the engine block and the location I would have never found it. Thanks so much guys for the help. I'm sure I will be asking a ton more questions of you . The help was truly appreciated. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
