ever had that sticky clutch moment
« on: February 09, 2016, 09:54:40 PM »
What I thought was a clutch problem luckily not. The lever and purch are buggered.
Also has anyone installed there new clutch plate kit. I went to put mine in and found that the ring around the basket is really out of shape and the new plates won't slide through.

I put the new plates in mine.  Some sections of the ring were missing on mine and I cut metal strips and welded in the missing sections, but don't remember having any of the others interfere.  You should be able to just bend or lightly hammer them out of the way. There is a reasonable amount of clearance around the OD to work with.

Thanks I didn't want to tap the ring out as being so close to the show Knowing my luck it would break. It hailed yesterday here and pretty sure my car will be a written off

Sorry to hear about your car, I still see cars getting around Perth with hail damage from the big storm we had years ago!

You could try putting the basket in the lathe and use the tool holder as a straight edge and try to ease you the fingers until you were close. Care would be needed...

Good idea Hardy. Really good way to get the basket nice and square to the diameter...nice!!
One more thought if you use a counter shaft to chuck in the lathe, then you can get the basket square to the hub and shaft. (Yeah over kill, but I feel better...;-)

Thanks that's sounds like a good idea I've been thinking of getting a lathe for some time now. I missed the boat with a myford ml 7 with a Ute full of tooling  and in immaculate condition. There  are two others floating around. A really old nuttal and as hurcus both of these have 3phase which I would have to change the motor. The other thing is I'm limited in space I would have to throw out my beer fridge. With the car it was time to get a new one anyway so if it is written off maybe get a nice ss v8

Beer fridge versus lathe. Wow, the decisions that some of us are faced with are beyond what one man should face alone.

Good luck on your decision - I am not sure what I would do in your shoes.

Sentimental value

After losing many old decals when a refrigerator had to be scrapped, I've taken to putting my decals on magnetic rubber sheet, then slapping them on the fridge or toolbox.  I lost many great old decals that were on my first shop fridge - it was a round-top late 40's model that already had many motorcycle-related stickers on it when I got it in the early 70's.  It finally gave up in the 90's.  It was really sad to see it go.

Yeah I lost my old fridge which was a sixtys model it went to the bike wrecker with some bikes including a bs 175 guilty as charged. Many years ago. I had to keep that fridge shut by jamming a 22 bolt action daisy rifle under the door handle. This one I think I will try using a heat gun to remove the stickers when the time comes. As its only twenty years old

Thanks guys
I had one of those days yesterday where I should have stayed in bed.
I took it out yesterday for the first time with the right hand conversion that all went well. So I went for a little ride. I only put about four litres of fuel in it. It was running perfectly until I switched to reserve then at idle the revs dropped from 1800 to around 1000 almost stalling with lack of fuel. I decided to go home when I felt something hit my leg I didn't tighten up the oil cap after bleeding the lines. I couldn't find the cap and it was my good one this made me very angry so I took off again to hit a bee which stung me right between my sunglasses and helmet. I turned it off when I got  home and try again today. Doing things when your tired is just as bad as if you are drunk.
