Tank Bung Thread Pitch
« on: January 05, 2016, 10:55:32 AM »
2 questions:

1) Is the thread on a 175/200 tank bung the same as a 350? 22mm?
Update:
Just learned that a 175/200 petcock will fit a 350 tank, but may not provide adequate fuel flow for wide open throttle conditions. Thanks DL.

2) What is the pitch of the thread?

Thanks
...bert

I put the 175 tap on the 350 for a while it seemed  fine though I didn't ride it for very long. The fuel lines are different. The 350tap won't work on a early 175 as you don't get clearance with the oil tank yes 22mm can't help with the pitch.  I did buy a so-called bridgestone replacement tap it does not turn off

  Hi Bert,
Using the site pitch gauge  ;), I measure the 350 tank stub thread pitch at 1.0mm.                      Brian.
Unspoiled by progress.

Thanks Brian.  I need to acquire one of those gadgets so I can answer my own queries. I had done some research (google is my friend) and the 1mm pitch makes these bungs and petcocks interchangeable (interference not withstanding) with post '75 Harleys and several other makes. I appreciate you taking the time to answer definitively.
Thanks Coxy for confirming the interchange between 350 and 175/200 petcocks and you too DL.
;D Another quandary put to bed.

  Cheers Bert,
Have seen reference to certain Harley taps being suitable alternative.

See here under 'Interchange' for more details...............   http://www.bridgestonemotorcycle.com/parts.htm     Lots of other good parts info, as well.

My pitch gauge came with a cheap  but extensive tap & die set I bought years ago.  Most of smaller taps now useless, gauge is quite high quality and still going strong.
              Brian.

It's been a few years but if I remember correctly I put a tap from a Z1 Kaw on one of my GTRs with no problem.  Flows more fuel than the standard tap also.  I wouldn't abuse one of my girls like this now but when I was young, the gtr would starve a bit for fuel if being held open for several miles.
