Electronic ignition?

Just curious if anyone has ever installed a electronic ignition setup in their 50/60/90/100? Yeah the stock system works fine but who wants stock? I was thinking of trying out using a Pertronix setup. I guess if it doesn't work atleast I can use it on my CL175.

The Pertronix system might work.  I always thought they were a good cheap electronic trigger system.  They were intended to be used with  straight battery power; it's hard to predict how it will react with the flywheel coil powering it.  You could power it with the battery, I guess, you'd just have to have a charged battery all the time like the bigger bikes.  If you do it, let us know how it works.

I was planning on running a battery powered ignition. That way I can completely remove the flywheel, stator and everything else behind the points plate. If I do take on the street then I'll just wire up a seperate circuit for the headlight and taillight to run on a battery. It should also free up a pony or two with removing that weight and make it a bit snappier. Now just to pick up the stuff to get it complete.

haven't seen a small BS engine, but does it need the inertia weight of the flywheel for being able to idle down smoothly? I once had a garden tiller that someone had put a lighter weight flywheel meant for something like a push mower with a blade. It would really pull the rope out of your hand when trying to start it. Once I put the proper flywheel on it, she ran nice.

Curses!!! I won a Pertronix unit for 30 bucks and the guy tells me he lost it and not to send payment. Yeah I would of lost it too if it went for that cheap. Bastard!

The same thing occurred to me, but the motorcycle engines have full circle steel crankshafts, so it will probably be OK.  He's probably only going to loose about 25% of the inertia.  It may make it a little harder to start moving from a stop without stalling, but not too bad.
