175 DT Restoration Question
« on: April 09, 2009, 11:36:14 AM »
Hi all,

I have a question in regards to a 175 DT restoration. Over the course of 175 DT
production, several changes took place in the engine....neutral positions, 5th
gear, generator, points & condenser, etc. These are described in the service
letters and service manual.

My question is this...when these changes are mentioned, is the serial number
mentioned in the letters/manual the number for the frame tag or for the engine
case itself?

The nunbers in the letters/manual are in the form of frame tag numbers
(16G11761), not in the form of engine case numbers (TA1-11761). But I would
have thought if the change was to the engine, the engine number would be the one
mentioned, not the frame number.

For instance, the generator change took place at Serial # 16G11761. A bike
could have a frame tag of 16F11700 and an engine number of TA1-11800, because
the frame tags and engine case numbers never match but are usually within a
couple hundred of each other.

This is a general question in regards to all the changes that took place during production.  Just curious if anyone knows for sure, thanks!

Paul

Concerning 175-200 parts updates relating to serial number before or after 16V

It has been my understanding the number reference is the frame tag number, by which
I mean the small metal tag that is attached to the frame, that shows the serial number and
model type, while bearing the name of Rockford Motors.  But be aware that this plate can be changed
as we have ones in stock

Hope this helps

Thanks for your help Richard.  After thinking about it, the Frame tag is always the lowest number, followed by a higher number stamped near the steering head and finally a higher number on the engine case.  Therefore if a change is noted based on the Frame tag number, it would always cover an engine of the same number.  A little confusing, but it makes sense now...thanks again!
