GTO coulor
« on: August 23, 2017, 12:23:45 PM »
I've just bought myself another Gto does anyone know if it should have a chromed tank or did they make one all red there's a picture of it on the gallery
Also the side panels have the Gto in White and gold whereas others l've seen are in black l do have spares of each do you know if they're used on the red ones in either colours
If it's meant to be chrome ll redo it if not I will leave it as its quite nice as it is
Kind regards
Alan

The correct color combo will be determined by the  vin# on the little tag under the seat.

If the bike is a 70 model, it should have a gold & chrome tank, with gold side covers that have the white & gold emblems on them and a seat with the smaller font logo/lettering.

If it's a 71, it should have the solid white tank with black stripes, white side covers with the black & gold emblems and a seat with the large font logo/lettering.

Remember there was a gold model with black stripes too, not chromed tank

Yes, but that was the 71 GTR and not a GTO....  ;)

That red paint looks to be well done; I'd be tempted to leave it as is. Having said that, a GTO in gold looks fantastic!

         Alan
I think I'm correct in saying the final batch of 2000 machines (approx 1000 white GTOs but maybe more and the balance of GTRs  with solid gold tanks) had the larger font on the seat. These were sold only in the US as 1971 models in an attempt to 'update' the machines and keep sales going. The GTO should have been produced two years earlier when the popularity street scramblers was at it's peak.

Good luck with your new aquisition, she looks very nice.  I've now got my white GTO on the road. Took my first proper bike ride in 45 years the other evening. Great to be back in the saddle again and on a stone, was 19 again. A bit wobbly on the slower corners but it's coming back to me.
                                      Brian.

I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!

The Gold/Chrome GTO's were all built in Nov. & Dec. of 1969.  Your "new" GTO, being built almost a year later in Dec. of 1970, is a 1971 Model year GTO.

I imagine that the seat has been replaced at some point, along with either the side covers and/or the emblems on them.

Here's a thread on the seat logos....  http://bridgestonemotorcycleparts.com/index.php?topic=2535.0

The checkered gas cap and the rear grab bar are exclusive to the 71 GTO's. (Sorry... and 71 GTR's  ;D  )
